Kirk Sutton Gayman
December 23, 1939 ~ September 24, 2010
CARMEL VALLEY - Kirk Sutton Gayman, 70, was killed in an automobile accident in Westley, CA. He was born in Farmington, Illinois and was the fifth of seven children born to Dorothy and J. Earl Gayman. Kirk lived on the family farm until he was seven years old, and travelled with his family to San Bernardino, California, then to Carmel Valley, where he lived for over 60 years. He was a charter member of Tularcitos School and graduated from Monterey High School, Class of 1957. He was a retired member of Carpenter's Union 605, a former Valley Volunteer, and owned Kirk Gayman's Tractor Service. Kirk and his little dog Cody were frequently seen working together on the big green tractor. He was an excellent woodworker, an avid trap shooter and a member of Carmel Associated Sportsmen Inc. He was a life member of the NRA and loved to travel, visiting and shooting clay pigeons at various trap clubs. He made many friends over the years, and his big hugs and ready smile will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Cheri and children, Ron (Lisa) Gayman of Pleasant Hill, Pam (Tim) Thomson of Whidbey Island WA; step-children, Lauri (Kelly) Hatfield of San Jose, Alexis Ostensen of San Dimas; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Dorothy Sutton Gayman Conway; brothers, David (Bonnie), Merrill (Pat), Malcolm (Leona), Kermit (Sharon); his sister, Priscilla (Don) White; sister-in-law, Mary El Gayman; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, J. Earl and his brother, Richard.
A Celebration of Life will be held November 6, 2010 from 12:00-4:00 PM at the Carmel Associated Sportsmen's Clubhouse, 1.8 miles up Robinson Canyon Road, Carmel Valley. Look for the signs along the road and turn left at the gate. All of his friends are welcome to join us in remembrance of Kirk.

I would also like to thank everyone for the overwhelming kindness displayed over the last few days. It makes me wish that my Grandpa had discovered this forum and its members when he first got his truck. He would have had such a blast! This would have been his favorite smiley (if you can call it that):

I'm certain this thread will end up in the archives with the rest of the family that have passed. I think it would be really fitting to have a photo of Kirk with his SSR for the "In Rememberance" forum when this thread closes and goes there.

I had "Googled' a couple days ago and discovered Kirk was a trap shooter - and figured he had been to the local club here in Kingsburg. Out little towns' population swells during that Annual Event... Would like to have crossed "SSR Paths" with Kirk - I bet his stories of Early Carmel Valley are priceless...
