SSR motivated the HHR

In the Honolulu Advertiser - Section F

Retro Wave - Chevy's 2006 HHR

Snip:

Bob Lutz, General Motors product development chief, bristled when member of the media suggested that the Chrysler PT Cruiser was the motivation behind the 2006 Chevrolet HHR. "The impetus", Lutz said, biting off each word for maximum effect "was not the PT, it was the SSR," referring to the Chevy roadster truck.

I guess the HHR is our off spring.

So if the SSR is our baby - and the HHR is the SSR's baby - then we're grandparents !!! and so proud

Orphan

I guess you could say the HHR is an orphan since Chevy killed off its parent, the SSR.

Such strong words.

How about the "SSR in enjoying an early retirement"

I was actually there when it happened. Lutz was reviewing all of the new Chevrolets shortly after he joined GM. As he was reviewing the new Delta small car for Chevy (eventually the Cobalt) he pointed across the GM Styling Dome to the SSR and said that one of the Deltas should look like that. The HHR was created shortly after that review.
He loved the SSR at that review. He had nothing to do with the SSR except supporting the Wayne Cherry edict to remove the rear chrome bar.
