Is theft a big problem with these fine autos? My name is Bob and I live in Boise, Idaho and I am new to this forum and was a new SSR owner for 4 1/2 days, then someone stole it!! I would really like another one but am afraid that these are some how targeted. Has anybody heard stories like this or is it a freak thing?? I live in a smaller (what i consider to be small) town and never expected anything like this.
They had to have put it in a trailer within minutes. I have only ever seen one other one here in the last three years, so they couldn't have driven it very far with out being seen. I just don't know what to think...

Sorry about the bad luck, Kool
First thing I would do is post the serial number on this site - SSR owners are a pretty dilligent bunch, and tend to take notice of other SSRs on the road. Unless they sell your SSR for parts, it's pretty hard to hide.
One recommendation I would make - whenever I'm on the road, I get into the habit of pulling out the starter relay at night - they can't take it anywhere unless they put it on a towtruck.

You poor soul.....I can't imagine loosing my SSR like that. The loss would be indescribable. Hope you get another one and equal compensation from your insurer.
Did you leave the keys in it ? Was it parked outside ? Was it on a weekend ? Was the top up or down ? Sorry to here about your loss. Your loss is kinda like " OUR " loss , so to speak. What is the insurance company doing and who do you have ? I hope you get it back or another one . Chris

Yours is the first one I have ever heard stolen too! I would most definately get another one. I hope they catch them soon. I wouldn't think that there is a very large market for parts.

KOOOL,
I may not live in Boise, but I keep my eyes open for other SSR's and or there parts.
Can you give desription of what yours had and color.
I would also let the DMV know so that if anyone attempts to register that vin they can catch them.
Good luck in the recovery or replacemenmt of your SSR.

Wow!! That is terrible!
Whats up with the security system? Any clue how it was done?
I happen to know if you push it to move it, it should lock up everything - even with a key.........so I may sound ignorant in asking..........not to add salt ......but do you have any ideas how?
Okay here I go. First thank you for the responses. I guess I need to explain some things for a better understanding of what happened, I pulled up into the back of my office and parked, just like i have been doing for 15 years, I have a small company that I run and we have many trucks and lots of equipment that we operate from the back part of the office and have never been bothered by anyone messing with our stuff - ever!! This is idaho thats why I moved here. Now that I have justified my stupidity I can tell you that yes the keys were in it. I was only running in to check my phone and messages and wasn't going to be 10 minutes. The car was brand new, and I was totally enjoying it, I had the exhaust modified and the windows tinted, it was great, the color was aqua blur, just beautiful!!
I heard it start but didn't think anything of it because our guys often move cars around for deliveries and such, (thats why the keys were in it) after a few seconds I looked out the window to see it drive away but couldn't see who it was because of the window tint. the police were on it within 20 minutes but it was no where to be found. I really think somebody must have been following me to steal it because of the way it was done, a car like that couldn't have gone a single mile with out being seen here so they must have been able to put it in a trailer some how. Also I have heard from the idaho state police that there is a high dollar car theft ring operating in the northwest, but how they knew that car is just beyond me - crazy!!
so now I want another one just the same, it was so much fun to drive!!
maby I should wait for the 06's are there going to be more options?? does anyone know??
thanks for listening - call me crazy, call me stupid, but my name is Bob
Have to believe your SSR will be found, hopefully still assembled? Be sure to keep us posted on the outcome? Most SSR owners have means of finding their vehicle, but a true professional thief knows most of them. I have a cop buddy here in California that worked a car theft project for two years. Most special vehicles are shipped out of the country in cargo containers from local ports. In California, Lo-Jack is a big deterrent for theft. My buddy said theives would steal the car then leave it somewhere for several days to be sure it didn't have a locating device? I have to believe someone just went for a nice joy ride and you'll be back with your SSR soon, with key in pocket.
Bob, is your insurance company going to give you grief over leaving your keys in the truck?
I had a car stolen once, out of my carport, and one of the first things that the insurance company asked for when they recorded my statement, were the keys.
I didn't ask, but I assumed there might have been a problem if I'd left the keys in the car.
In Texas you can get a ticket for leaving your keys in the ignition.

Amazingly enough, the insurance company didn't ask. (and I didn't volunteer) The insurance company seems to be very cooperative and understanding so far. The company is Cincinati Insurance Co.

I live in Baker City,OR and I haven't seen one other SSR on the road out here (not a blue one either). Sorry to hear about your loss. I'll keep eyes open.
I haven't heard a word on the recovery, I called last week to see how the investigation was going and the detective asked me what I wanted him to investigate? In other words, unless I knew who did it, there was nothing he could do. its very frustrating. (I'm sure it is for the police as well).
The insurance company took my sworn recorded statement last friday (and yes I did tell them the keys were in it but only because they asked ) When I got finished I asked her about the key thing she said it didn't matter they still took it! So aparently my insurance covers stupid too. She told me that as soon as the parent company got it listed on the policy she could write me a check. I told her I really want another one and I promise to lock it every time.
They may offer it anyway, but remember to get them to reimburse you for tax, title, and license, fees, that you'll have to pay on your new one.
Best of luck!
