Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 3:21 AM Thanks for pulling over SSR!
And notice the wave to show appreciation from the riders. If you want these folks to continue letting faster traffic by, encourage them by saying thanks with a quick wave when you go by.

I couldn't agree more. Mr. & Mrs. SSR were very courteous, and I think they even smiled a bit as we waved thanks.

I found it interesting that such a "spontaneous" event was conveniently captured with the SSR, bikers and the "down-low salute" (usually given to approaching bikers) all in perfect position for the camera shot !

Well I really think the guy was just scared because his buddies took off without him.....and he stayed exactly in the middle of the road. I had let a crotch rocket pass me, but he too could not pass the HD rider. The rocket eventually pulled over and waited a while.

Those picture taking guys are out there every weekend! So they capture a lot of things; they take thousands of pictures (I think there were 3 photographers last year). This is their business....selling photos of people on the Dragon. So it is more likely that it is spontaneous rather than set up....
I enlarged the picture and could only tell it was an older male with a bald head, and a lady sitting in the passenger seat. Would be cool to find out who it is!

After looking at the picture, I was beginning to wonder if I was out driving my SSR during my sleep.
But you clarified that WC66 as I'm not bald headed.

Question about the Dragon Tail
I did the Dragon on our Boss Hoss last year. 0 to 60 in 3 seconds but I scraped both pipes several times. 0 to 60 is a Straight Line. We've done the Dragon several times on our Harley, it scrapes the running boards. I read where some did it last year during Maggie Valley in their SSR. Is it any fun in a car, Vete, or SSR after doing it on 2 wheels? Just wondering..... over SSRHEARTBEAT
My son has been itching to trade his Valkyrie for a Boss Hoss....... Is it a ridable machine compared to the Harley, or a Valkyrie....... Any input and pics would be appreciated..... Send to Tomahawke@earthlink.net

Tomahawke,
It's Big and Bad, but balanced very good. More HP than our 06 SSR. The Dragon tail was exciting on it. It still goes where you point it. I just don't think the Dragon Tail would be much fun on Four wheels after doing it several times on two wheels. I've never been on the Dragon on four wheels. I realize My Opinion only matters to me.... over SSRHEARTBEAT
Thanks for the info........ We had a buddy plant his roadstar on one trip.... Everyone was very helpful in getting him goin again.... Just some broken ribs.... We are old farts, so he got a trike.......But I plan to do it again on My Valkyrie....

I've ridden The Tail dozens of times in the last few years on different Harley's - my current 03 VROD and my Dad's 01 Road King. A friend always rides his Kawasaki Ninja 600 ZXR (crotch rocket) and we always have fun. He's gone very quickly because we can't corner like he can if we tried. A year ago we happened to be out there when a Corvette club was running the dragon and we saw everything from stock C5's to supercharged Z06's and belive me they were having fun! Some day I want to get my 03 modified Cobra out there. The SSR would be OK but I'd want a lot better brakes before I pushed it on the tail - 311 curves in 18 miles and you need awesome brakes. I fade my VROD brakes each time afgter about 3/4 of the way through. Just depends on how hard you push it.
Regardless, it would be fun and worth the trip. Trust me, you have never been on a road like it before. Plus, many many hundreds of miles of other excellent roads in the area that are perfect for a mcycle or with the SSR and the top down - lots of great sweeping curves, hills and excellent scenery.
Try it and enjoy but watch it on the weekends because the motorcycles come out in droves and it really is a road for them. Just let them go by with a wave and keep to your side of the road.

I ran down it 1/2 way in my SSR without any other traffic in front of me and don't recall that I had any brake fade. I was concerned about plowing through a curve because of the weight, but I never did. Going up hill you use the brakes a lot less you get to press on the gas a lot more....I liked going up better than going down
I've never been on a bike, so I can't compare.....

Hard on the Brakes
WOW FCTR,
I can imagine from my experience in the SSR driving regular southeast terrain, that the Dragon would be Hard on the Front Brakes trying to slow down 4700+ pounds. Plus, there would be NO lean factor as we experience on 2 wheels. As big as our Boss Hoss is, it still leans. I'm sure for ALL those who have never done the Dragon on 2 wheels, It would be Thrilling for them even in 4 wheels . I was just wondering how much Less of a thrill it would be in a Car, after a Motorcycle. I guess the ones of us who have been fortunate to do the Dragon on 2 wheels, are just Lucky.
Having said all that, we will probably still "Do It" while at Maggie Valley.........
