FIRE CAUSE RELEASED – The U.S. Forest Service, responding to an open records request by the Messenger, revealed details on how a fire that burned approximately 265 acres, mostly on the LBJ National Grasslands, and threatened dozens of homes March 11 began. A camper, whose name was not released, staying in Unit 71 of the Grasslands lit toilet paper in order to burn his feces so as not to litter. The fire quickly got out of control, and while the camper was trying to put water on it, he fell and injured his shoulder, requiring a trip to the hospital. The camper was cited for violating state burn laws, allowing a fire to escape control and carelessly or negligently igniting a substance that causes fire.
I'm sorry to read about the wildfires in AZ, and I hope the above camper was not in AZ lately.
