Sorry for the short notice. This is really spontaneous.....
October 2nd is being globally celebrated as "Livestrong Day" by the Lance Armstrong Foundation. That's a Friday.... about 10 days from now.
We (the Phoenix Fanatics) are going to celebrate with a Friday evening dinner and cruise with the fog lights on. The intention here is to have all of the SSR Family go out and cruise on the evening of October 2nd. The evening will be dedicated to all of our SSR family that has, is or will battle cancer. I've contacted the Lance Armstrong Foundation for a pile of yellow wrist bands to be given in exchange for a donation that night. The proceeds will be sent on behalf of the gathered SSR Fanatics to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I've worked a deal with "My Big Fat Greek Restaurant" at the Arizona Center to donate a portion of all of our food bills to the same.
We'll be dining outside, 7:30pm at:
My Big Fat Greek Restaurant (MBFGR)
455 N. 3rd Street
Phoenix
602-254-5730
website: My Big Fat Greek Restaurant
We'll be ordering off the menu and paying individually. Parking will be in the adjacent parking garage, on the north side of the Arizona Center. Be sure to bring your parking stub to the restaurant for validation.
After dinner, we'll be doing a little of "Cruising Central" in a somewhat disorganized fashion and showing off our yellow wrist bands.
I've also posted this on the National Events forum in hopes that it will carry across the country and mobilize the SSR Family to collectively go out to dinner on the same nite and Cruise this country against cancer.
Sorry for the lack of planning...... it was really a last minute request to me and I'm trying to mobilize a movement with short notice. We can do this.......
I've given "MBFGR" an estimate of 40-60 people for dinner at 7:30. Please post your intentions on this thread, so that I can give them an accurate number the day before. I'll keep the list on this post.
Thanks,
Mike

Would you mind if a purple Tennessee SSR joined you? We'll be in Sedona and may run down to Phoenix. My lovely wife is a 12 year cancer survivor, so we would like to participate; as well as meeting some othe fanatics.
Mike if Sharyn and I could be there we would. We will see you guys in about 4 weeks.

Bring yourself down. Do you need maps???? I'll send you a PM with my cell phone number............. call if you need anything.
Thanks Mike for setting this up. The fight against cancer is very dear to my heart, being 2 years post treatment. Unfortunately we will not be able to join the group, but will be there 100% in spirt.

Last time I cruised Central was around 1978, the year I graduated High School.....which also was the year Mayor Margie Hance shut it down for cruisers
I graduated from Maryvale , and our spot on Central was the Northwest corner of Thomas and Central.....inaccessible now by auto, but VERY fond memories of those days......fights and all
Also spent a lot of time in the Arby's / Goodyear parking lots, which were across the street from each other.
I'm picking up the yellow wristbands this afternoon. They'll go on "sale" to y'all this evening at dinner. Proceeds will be our donation....
See if you have something in a matching yellow to wear........ We're gonna do a group photo.
Mikey
Sorry I won't be there with all of you. (Even if that High School thug, Doug Allen will be there menacing the locals, AGAIN!) This cruise is amazing and shows how much good people can do with just a few days notice!
Cruise fast and loud and liveSTRONG!
Jamie
Thanks Mikey for setting up a wonderful dinner last night! Great venue, and it was great to see so many of our SSR friends, and to meet so many new members! I hope we raised a few bucks for LIVESTRONG!
No good deed goes unpunished though, some jerk keyed up the gas door on Hellvis while it was parked in the parking structure

when i was in a truck clyb years ago we had quite a few show trucks that ran with us all and we would a take turns watching the trucks while at dinner shows where ever and when ever seems with the public out there something like this needs to begin again.. sorry this happened to you doug or that it happened at all ... some people truly suck there was no better reason to have helvis out though
Not the end of the world, at least it wasn't down the side...a difference of $ 150 for a billet gas door (there's no way to match the paint on the gas door) and, say $ 3 - 4 K to paint the side.

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.
There is no way to respond to Doug's posting without profanity, threats, and more profanity and threats. You pay to park (even after validation) and the property owners cite immunity by posting minimum-wage marginally-trained "security" folks at the exits - whose sole reason for being there is (1) to get paid and (2) to make sure you pay! Hadn't been to the Arizona Center for several years, and won't be going back again. Doug, look into a brushed aluminum gas door like Blueeyes has on her SSR - I'll pay (Gawd, I'd like you to owe me for a change!)
Mike, please don't take this post as criticism - it was a great night out, even if some of us old folks got turned around and headed the wrong way. (I saw you heading north on central, and was too proud to jump 2 lanes and follow you! )
