Dust Storm

Were any fanatics in the Phoenix/Tuscan area affected by the huge dust storm last night? According to news reports, it was pretty bad. Here in Yuma, we had very high winds & dust, but nothing like your area. Fallen trees in our neighborhood, but thankfully no damage for us. The SSR was safely tucked away in the garage. Just Concerned!

Having grown up here this was one of the worst I've seen. All hard blowing dirt that got into the house and office. Then it did not rain to wash it away! Spent a lot of time cleaning the pool and house out. Luckily no downed trees or loss of power.

That was pretty wild looking on the news. Did they ever say how high the dust cloud was?

Still have the wife out cleaning the back yard.
I can still taste the dirt. Entire Phx area still has loads of dust floating in the air and it is very gritty out.
50 Miles wide and 4,000 feet high
Worst dust storm in the 32 years I have lived here.

Tucson

didn't get a lot of dust. Parts of Tucson had very high winds and lots of rain.
We had a dinner with our new SSR Fanatics (TucsonSSRJim) at a restaurant about 10 miles from home. We left home to a little wind and storm clouds, within about 2 miles hit heavy winds and lots & lots of rain..... made it safe to dinner and by the time dinner was over it was calm.
Got home.... no rain here just debris from wind.
Amazing......

No dust here, Musicman . . . the rain came down in buckets.

Here's a picture I received earlier this morning . . .

We had a 38' diesel pusher RV when we went head long into one of those things. It was awesome, but costly to the damage it did to the awning. That cloud was like something you'd see on Star Trek. It was scarey at the time but I'd like to do it again. This time in a bunker.

I talked to several friends in the Phoenix area today. Only a few of them were affected by the dust! Amazing.... it really only hit certain areas.

YouTube has lots of different videos made by several sources. Well worth watching some of them. A very scary sight! And of course there were those that decided to drive straight into it -- just like the tornado chasers! Crazy people.....

I've lived here all my life and I've never seen one like this. It went from daylight to night in less than a minute. The dust is about the consistency of talcum powder and is in/on everything. nothing was left untouched.... nothing.

The pool looked like it should have something creepy crawling out of it. It's almost back to normal today.

I was outside, watching it come toward the house and all I could think of was that it looked..... BIBLICAL........

Did you have any trouble breathing? I'm guessing A/C & pool filters need replacing.

I would imagine that much dust/sand would be bad for paint jobs!

We were very lucky here in Tucson! Nothing like this!

That IS Hawk. Good that the dust was the micro-fine stuff. Pulled over half way thru it to put the top up. Good thing, too, as there was rain at the other side! Fat drops, so Hawk got a good bath after the dusting. Came out without any new rock chips...
