Here are the details. Saturday morning Oct.18th meet in McAlester OK. at the Angels Diner in front of the Happy Days Hotel between 9:00 and 10:00 for a quick breakfast then head out for the Talimena Drive.
Deb and I checked it out this weekend and the color is just starting to change. The 18th is the only weekend that fits into most schedules and the colors should be good.
We plan on having lunch at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge on top of the mountain. We will then finish the run down the Arkansas side and take another route back to Heavener to see the Runestone and then a stop at Robbers Cave State Park (the place Jesse James and Belle Star hidout from the law) There just happens to be a huge car show there that weekend.
We will then go back to the hotel freshen up and go to dinner. We can do the Diner again or go over to Krebs and eat at Pete's Place (yes this is the famous family style, Italian cuisine that has been served since 1925) let me know your choice and that is what we will do. I need to know so I can make reservations.
The town of McAlester has just about sold out of rooms for that weekend so you need to book NOW!! Our first choice in rooms is at the Happy Days Hotel rooms are around $70 they are themed and if you hurry you can get the Marilyn or Betty Boop room. Our second choice which is about a block away is the HiWay Inn of McAlester rooms are the same price. These are both brand new motels. You might be able to get a room at one of the other chains but we couldn't get more than one or two so we looked till we found these.

Gosh, I hate to miss this, but got a prior committment. I'm trying to rearrange some things. Will know by Wednesday if we can make it. Sounds like a blast.
I took a queen because she said it was the last room they had available at all. Would rather have had a king or two beds. I did book for the 18th correct? Check in is at 3pm.
Here in Tulsa the leaves are starting to turn beautiful colors: It should be in the low 70s this weekend just prefect for a top down cruze with friends
based on the google maps routing we will probably meet everyone on 75 North of Hwy 121. I'll check the map again tomorrow and give you an exit number. I think it is exit 41 and will be there before 7:00am
Mickey and Deb
Thank you both for such a well planned trip, the weather was beautiful, the scenic drive was great and the last 14 miles into Mena were some of the most wicked twisty-turns, right up there with The Dragon

We had a great time the weather was perfect only problem we had was the quadruple clover leaf heading to Krebs And the fact that we ran out of CHEESE CAKE
What a great weekend!!! We had a blast. The Happy Days Hotel was a hoot. Mickey and Deb, thanks for being such great hosts. It was great to spend time with old friends and meet some really nice new ones. Will post pics soon. Sugar Daddy really enjoyed the quadruple loop (almost as much as Paula enjoyed the last bite of cheesecake.)
My SSR: 06 HERBLUR (FPR w/chrome),06 RARESSR(blur over silver w/chrome), 03 Nascar Pace Truck (#331)
Thanks to Mick & Deb for being such good host. We really enjoyed the trip and meeting old friends as well as new ones. Had a great time. Guess I'll have to change my nickname since everyone knows I have such a passion for Cheesecake.
lMickey & Deb THANKS for a great tour! The drive was a welcome break from the concrete of Dallas. Liz really enjoyed the run with all the turns. The weather was perfect!!!!!!!!!!!! I kinda like the "skid pad" test before supper. It push all the stomach contents down to eat lots of Italian food & home brew beer. With all of the cars from Robbers Cave show at the Happy Days, we had a mini car show in the parking lot. Plus I think the guy with the El Camino would have thrown in a couple of hundred for Wildcats SSR for an even trade!
