What a Trip!

We finally got back home from our recent trip to Tucson early Thursday morning and it was a trip to remember.

When leaving Calgary on Nov 5 we arrived at the airport two hours early. Our airline, Westjet, had recently installed a new reservation system and it took 20 minutes to find us in the computer. As part of the check in process they wanted an address where we would be so we gave them our house address. Nope - that address does not exist we were told. After another 30 minutes of trying to get the computer to accept it we gave up and gave them a bogus address on Ina Road which the computer accepted so we could get our boarding passes. The rest of the flight to Phoenix and rental car pick up were uneventful.

The day after we arrived my wife came down with a very bad cold and within a day I had it as well. My son Nick and his girlfriend Amanda arrived on Monday and we did manage to get my garage cabinets installed between trips to the various malls and so Nick's girlfriend could get her shop on. We also worked very hard to try and drown the cold germs with a wide variety of spirits while boiling in the spa. Nick and Amanda left on Friday and after spending most of the trip fighting our colds we were ready to leave on Saturday.

Our flight was scheduled to leave Phoenix at 5:15 PM so we left the house at 2:00 PM and headed north on I-10. About 1 mile north of the Pinal Air park exit traffic came to a halt and we sat for the next 2 hours. It turns out there was a fatal wreck near Picacho Peak and 3 lanes of traffic were being diverted to the one lane service road. While waiting we tried calling our ariline but with all their problems with the new reservation system caused up to kill 2 cell phones with no answer. We finally got to Picacho at 5:00 PM and said screw it and went back to hour house to try and make alternate flight arrangements.

We did manage to book a flight out on Wednesday evening so we had an extra 4 days to recover from our colds and relax. I think I will try to fly in to Tucson on future visits.

BUMMER, Bob . . . are you sure this wasn't just a NIGHTMARE?

I think you should TRY AGAIN next week but this time leave all the germs and bad stuff up there.

By the way, Crack of Dawn Weather . . . sunny with not a cloud in sight and a predicted high of 77 degrees.

Mega- Garage Cabinets.

Bob, I was just about to ask - Why not just fly in and out of Tucson? Even if it's an extra $50, it's worth it

Doophus' clock always says it's 5:00

We have flown in and out of Tucson a few times with US Air but the extra hour in Phoenix plus 40 minute flight plus 45 minute drive back north from the airport makes it a longer trip compared to the normal 75 minute trip from the Phoenix airport. The actual cost of the flight is usually only $20 more to Tucson. We do have a small third passenger (Maltise mutt) that complicates which airline we can use making it a little more difficult to book flights. Westjet is cabin pet friendly for $50 each way and US Air is a little less friendly at $100 each way.
