New OEM Vendors Wanted

Well fanatics I think it is time once again to try to get another new GM OEM Vendor to step up to the plate, right? We have just seen that happen with the GM Windbreaks, so do you think we need another Vendor to step up and retool and start to remake those great soft side saddle bags for our members again??? What do you think?

Just take a look at what one eBay-er is already getting bids on and there are still more than 2 + days left to bid! $930.00

They're OK, but they're not worth more than $ 100 - $ 150 IMO.

Marc:

That is totally preposterous!

Notice that there are no photos of the bags with the lids up exposing the front free edges. It appears to me that these bags may already be at least slightly warped. Heck, then the buyer of these $1,000 bags can go out and spend an extra $5.00 or so to do the cheap fix/reinforcement of the front free edges.

Good thinking Marc.

I bought a milk crate at Dollar General for $5 and it holds my groceries and stuff just fine.

These people on e bay are crazy.

There are still deals out there if you are patient. Two weeks ago I paid $200.00 total for a brand new set of hard bags and a cargo net from someone on Ebay.

Your welcome but I cant take credit for that one. Somebody showed me their milk crate at the MV run and I thought what a good idea. I think it was Nelson but I'm not sure.

I got a white one and I'm going to get some of that spray paint that adheres to plastic and paint it red of course.

You might want to hold off on buying some those over priced accessories for a little while longer. We are already hearing about other vendors who might be stepping up to the plate to make up some of those discontinued parts and or accessories that we are wanting very soon.

hard saddle bags

My used 04 came fully loaded with the hard saddle bags. Their ok and expensive but I just bought the horizontal tail gate bag (not sure the item number) for $220 including shipping on e-bay. I like the soft better so I'd be interested because the had ones just aren't that functional. To much work to open.

I hear ya.... just got an 05 that has the hard bags... think they are coming out in favor of the cross bar and net, maybe soft bags... Anyone in Alberta, or western Canada interested in a set of hardsided bags?

I've found the original manufacturer and am twisting an arm for a quote on 50 sets.

Will advise when I know more.

Mike:

If this winds up being a "go", please inform them of the warping probelm which is inherent in the original design of the bags. Hopefully they could make a modification to reinforce the outside edge of the bags, so that the fanatics do have to wind up doing that fix on there own.

I actually have sent them my unopened set of bags, still in the box. The reason that they warp is the way they were built and packaged. I've already asked for some "product improvement" in that area. Thay have a sample of their original design in hand and I hope they can make a simple fix with just a materials change.

We'll wait and see.

Thanks for the input Alex. It's always good to hear from you.

Mike

I've seen some SSR owners at Woodward with the hard saddle bags and they leave the lids off! I travel with just one hard bag for my cleaning supplies.

Rear Bag

I have the soft side bags with the "Alex" repair kit. Thanks, Alex... I'm 6 ft 1in, but they can be a little tough to reach. Kim has a really tough time, without rubbing the top of the tailgate. I don't know the exact name, but I'd really like to see the soft bag that fits between the side bags, reproduced.

I was just able to get a set of the soft side bags for $125 from the dealer. I saw the "sag", but I think I can easily fix it. If I come up with one, I will post it for all.
