I have searched and searched, I thought I found the answers I needed. That was until I got to my dad's house today and looked under the ssr to confirm what I had found.
Here is my issue. My dad has an 04 SSR, auto of course, and I want to install a muffler, that's all for Father's Day. No cat back, no high end system, just a simple muffler to change the tone of his baby.
Everywhere I looked, I found 04's had a 3" inlet and 2.5" outlets. This is all true but on dad's it is a single in and single out. The inlet is offset toward the drivers side and the outlet offset to the passengers side.I went back on summitracing.com and can't seem to find a Magnaflow Muffler with this configuration. So, do I just get a 3" in and 3" out and install a 3" to 2.5" reduction on it? Also do all Magnaflows have the same sound? Flowmaster has many different series to denote their sound. Just wondering. Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the long winded explanation.
cash - I appreciate the help but unfortunately it doesn't because it seems all mufflers with a 2.5 out let are duals. I want/need a single outlet. Going to a dual outlet muffler is going to cost extra and buy that point I might as well hold off for a true cat-back system.
catseyes99 - I do have a super 44 on my other jeep that I though of sticking on there just for kicks to see what it sounded like but it is a 2.5 in 2.5 out
Yup, he original owner. In fact it had the plastic still on the seats and white shrink wrap on the hood when he test drove it. I think it had 4 mi on the odo lol. The split is right after the rear axle. I was taken back as well. it is 22" long if that helps. Would it be that big of a deal to install a reducer after the muffler to make it work? Thanks again for all your help guys. I meant to take pics but forgot to with all that was going on
EDIT - I will probably have to spill the beans and ask him if it is still stock. The SSR only has 56,xxx miles on it however. It finally got a new set of shoes on Tuesday. I can't believe the Goodyear's lasted as long as they did

The '03-'04 had a 3" in and 2.5" out. The pipe has a "Y" as it goes over the axle, so that it can be "duals".
There are two possibilities for you:
1) replace the muffler with a 3" in and 3" out and put a reducer on the outlet to go to the 2.5" tailpipe system. This is quick and painless.
2) Replace the muffler with a 3" in and dual 2.5" out and split the tailpipes. This is far less restrictive and will do a lot to change the sound of the SSR.... This is the "typical" change that most SSR owners have instituted when putting a new muffler on the '03-'04.
Personally, I would go with option #2 and choose a Magnaflow 12288 (18" long body). I really llike their sound. If you want something a little louder, you could go with a 12198 (14" body) and have a blast.
Good luck with your choices. It's all in the ear of the owner.......

It sounds like he has a Corsa cat back system already on his SSR.
I believe the Corsa has a single inlet and single outlet muffler and splits into two tail pipes right where he said.
Look at the exhaust tips and see if it say's Corsa on the top of them.
If it is quiet then he probably has the touring setup.
The sport setup is louder.
Mike- That was the replay that i was looking for and why I love this forum. Thanks again guys for all the help. Means a lot. I will let you guys know and post up pics when it is all said and done

I believe you're right....... I think the Corsa system had the same configuration as the stock Chevrolet. It's been a couple years since I've seen one.

Mike you are correct, the Corsa system is a single in and out with a Y after the muffler like the 03-04 system.

Call FlowMaster and they will make you one to fit. Usually have it in a week.
