2005 suddenly shut off while driving

Hello All.
I was driving alone and suddenly my baby killed on me. I did make it to the shoulder of the highway. And after an hour she started back up.
This is the second time for her to stop on me.
Please help

Sorry to hear this but you have come to the right place. Ignition switch is a common solution to a lotof issues you may run into. It is worth searching the site for such information.

Welcome to thte Fanatics. Sorry it is a bad experience that brings you to the home of PermaGrin. Stick around and let us know a bit about yourself and your truck.

There is a switch in the steering column which is turned by the key via a gear. We are talking abpout the switch mechanism not the key(lock).

Yikes! I thought the ignition switch was your gremlin also. I had to change it on both of my last SSRs. I have one in the glovebox of my recent SSR purchase because sooner or later it will need replacing.

Perhaps the battery is going south...also our alternators are known to go bad and it plays havoc with the electrical system.

Check for codes before anymore part swapping is my advice.

check the fuel cap. If the spring is too tight/too tightly turned then not enough air can enter the tank to displace the fuel that is being used. The engine will die and after sitting a spell it will start again because air has had a chance to slowly enter the tank while the truck is sitting there.

But can't imagine that on a FI engine. Maybe a bad fuel pump, but would expect some code from that.

voltage problem was bottom line when my ignition switch went out

I had the same problem with my '05 blur that everyone else has had. Years ago and that hasn't ever happened after Chevy replaced it. According to my rep it was a voltage issue and the the ignition switch was the culprit.
Check all the battery connections...also the wire crimps to the ignition switch.

P0689: Engine Controls Ignition Relay Feedback Circuit Low Voltage

P1021: no such code found

P0121: Throttle Position (TP) Sensor 1 Performance

P0698: no such code found

This was all read from the 2009 GM database for a 2005 Chevrolet SSR.

I had the "cranks but won't start" problem with mine and it was the fuse block on the passenger side fire wall. (I found the information on the forum) It's a known problem with the SSR that the fuse block heats up and loses continuity.

I finally got it started, drove it to the dealership and told the service manager about my suspicion. He was skeptical but to humor me while the truck was running in the service lane he opened the hood and pushed on the fuse block and the truck shut down. (I felt so darn smart. )

They replaced the block and I haven't had another problem.

Good luck.

Had this problem a year ago......randomly stopped.....would start and run after a couple minutes. After the 3rd time went to dealer....read the codes.....don't remember what they were.

Problem was the ECM.......ROM was corrupt. New ECM fixed it. Item designated MODULE PN#GM12596679.

Good Luck!

Oh yeah.........$660.

Did you have to replace the fuse box or just the #42 fuse?
