Just got mine installed and I'm lovin' them too. Later, I'll post my data on RPM/MPH before and after 4.56. So far, I can say that with 3.73's I did 2000 RPM at 70 MPH. With 4.56, it's 2500 RPM.

Question Need to join the 456 club.

Just moved the Slingshot SSR to Sarasota, FL. Where can I get parts and service to make the 456 change over in this area?
Thanks for the help.

I'm sure Lonnie would do it... send him a pm at screen name Mr. Sinister. Or contact him through

www.x-rodz.com

He is close by in Valrico, Florida. If he doesn't do it he can recommend someone, I'm sure.

The difference is absolutely amazing, Mine is an auto so I can only imagine what it will do to the 6 speed. Its a totally different machine. The feels 1000lbs lighter not kidding. I don't think it makes much diffeence on the gas mileage. I am told 1 mile PG easier in town and 1 MPG harder on the highway. thats if you can resist the urge to play !!! I am told if you go 410's you won't even notice the differnce and if you put on a blower you likely just want to keep the stock gears as you'll just get a bunch of wheel spin. The best way I can describe it is its like adding an extra 100 ponies for $350 if you can do it your self or about $800 if you have a shop install them its likely the best performance bang you can possibly get dolar for dollar.

How does the change (3:73 to 4:56 05 Auto) in gears affect the onboard computer? I know the speedometer and odometer will be off. Will you get lights, bells and whistles, telling you something is out of calibration?

Bells and whistles

Changing the gears does not effect the computer you will not have any bells or warning lights going off, however on the 05/06 I don't know of anyone who has been able to get the MPH right after the gear change. Mine was out by alot I'd say 20%-25% when they were first changed and the best my tuner could do was get it to about 10% off . when speedo is reading 70MPH I am actually travelling at 63 MPH. If anyone has been able to get it better than that on an 05/06 automatic let me know please !!! I would also highly recommend a auto transmission servo upgrade to go along with the 456 gears, my is it fun to chirp the tires in 3rd gear

Joined yesterday. When they were finished my first question was how noisy are the gears? The technician said he had the windows closed and the radio off and he didn't hear any noise or whine. I had to see or hear for my self and I didn't hear any noise or whine. Maybe i will hear it later when I increase my speed, So far I have not gone over 50MPH ( still in the break in period).

Whine

If you did get a whine it most likely would be more noticable at low speed around 30 mpr , so if its good now you should be good later as well. I broke mine in with a good rip and it has not made any difference 8K miles later so I would not worry too much with the break in period. Did you do the servo upgrade ???

Another cheap but noticeable upgrade. I'd go 1 servo stronger than the stock vette servo, go with the one the vettes upgrade to and you won't regret it .

Hi, Don

Is yours auto or manual? Different gear set. American no longer has the 4:56 gearset for the 6 speed, but the auto seems to be in reasonable supply.

If you don't have any luck with the shop JR used, I purchased mine from JS Gear in California. 714-841-4545.

Gear set was around $300, local GM dealer charged about $800 for the install.
No issues with gear whine with the American Axle. They are an OEM GM supplier, so good product.

gear set installed total price installed $ 750.00 ...done by a company here in Edmonton called Pro Trac gears. Then sent the computer to Westers Garage in Tilley AB. The reprogram cost $ 450.00......best money I have spent on the R so far.

Thanks for the quick response! Sounds like a good deal from that place in Edmonton! I have a son in Edmonton and will definately consider the next time I am there (I was there with the R in early August). Had previously heard about Westers and wanted to do the tune anyway. AND THE BEST PART... no PST or HST to worry about in Alberta!!!

By the way, what sort of things have you noticed (eg. whine, gas mileage, driveability, etc.) ... and the most important part - can you really break the tires loose under full throttle?
