4L60-E Auto Transmission question

I just noticed today that if I put it in second gear and start off from a dead stop, its in second gear right from the start. Another words, it will not start in first and then go to second and limited to second gear. Which is what I'm use too. I have a SuperChip installed which I don't think changes that, not sure. Also, not sure this is normal for a 4L60-E.

SSR only has 13k on it and the tranny works flawlessly. If in drive it shifts fine like it should. If I shift manually, it ****s fine.

I also did a quick search and see I'm not the only one with this question. Its an old post but, same question.

Found some more info, Looks like this is normal.

SECOND GEAR START
The second gear start option on the 4L60-E and 4L60-E HD provides an extra measure of security and control in hazardous driving conditions. By moving the gear selector to the D2 position, the driver can reduce engine torque to the drive wheels, increasing control during initial acceleration on slippery roads.

Confirmed to be normal...... selecting 2nd gear will use only second..... that's a "feature"... not a flaw....

Yep, I figured that out in autocross when the rev limiter kicked in on a straightaway in first gear. It took forever to get going when I started in second on the next run. I ended up launching in first, then shifting into second on the first straight and leaving it there. Starting with the shifter on "3" gives access to all three gears and is the place to be for most racing, right?
