auto tranny clunk
I have an '05 automatic that seems to 'clunk' in second gear, especially when cold, likes it's searching for a gear, when I'm taking it easy. The dealer says it's computer related, for economy. Any ideas?
have you tried the search button? I have on 04 but don't have a clunk, I have the tink which is just noise not a lag in the transmission. I did have my truck tuned and they set the shift up a little different so there is no bog when I stomp on it
BTW welcome to the forum, tell us more about you!

DAVE,
I have an 04 auto and there is no { clunk } when shifting into second at any temp or throttle setting. I have to believe that these computers are smart enough to compensate for temps w/o any noticeable change to the driver. There are a lot of sharp people on this site that I'm sure will help you figure this out, but I think your dealer might be blowing a little smoke ! ! ! !
G@@D LUCK

Is the CLUNK more of a clunk sound or are you able to feel it as well?
Is there kind of a lag when the shift should be occuring and then an abrubt clunk as it goes into gear? We call this a "slide bump shift" and it is correctable with a modified Corvette servo. The carbon/kevlar type band used in the late 4L60E has a tendency to slip on light application even though it is a far more durable lining than the old red paper linings were.We sell the modified Corvette servo for $24 plus shipping and they are pretty simple to install from the outside of the trans. The shift you are feeling may seem a little funky but it is not hurting the trans beyond minor wearing or glazing the band prematurely and if you aren't an aggresive driver will not be of any consequence.

Talking about the Trans.....If I had the trans fluid drained, pan dropped and new filter put in, how many quarts of fluid would I need to fill it back up again (2003)?
Thanks...

The "clunk' isn't audible, but I can feel it after it has shifted to 2nd, as if it wanted to shift again, but changed it's mind. It doesn't do it all the time.

I had my truck to the dealership, for this problem, and after replacing the u-joint, I still had the problem.....So I returned to the dealership once again.....and it took over 4 months to get a response from GM.....to tell me that it was of course not a problem..
