Corsa Exhaust Fitup with Spare Tire Installed?

I'm thinking about installing the Corsa Touring exhaust system (P/N 14253) but have installed a full-size spare tire and wheel under my SSR. Has anyone else done this who can report if there are any interferences between this exhaust system and the spare tire and how they were resolved ?

Thanks in advance.

The Corsa system does not have a dogleg on the driver's side that will clear the tire, like the OEM system does. You may need to cut out the OEM dogleg and have it welded into the Corsa pipe. Not rocket science, as both are stainless and it only takes a little TIG welding.

Mike

Looks like my memory isn't as good as it used to be...... It must just be the Magnaflow and Flowmaster systems that have a straight pipe on the driver's side....... sorry for the mis-information.....

Magnaflow cat back will also require the same mod if you have the spare tire.

Flowmasters, Flowmasters, who brought up Flowmasters.
They are mufflers. What do Flowmaster mufflers have to do with modifications to a tailpipe if you have a spare tire kit mounted.

I think he was questioning if the Corsa was going to be an improvement over the stock exhaust system.

Besides, this thread is about having to modify a cat back system if you have a spare tire kit mounted underneath.

I have a Corsa system on my truck with Mike's spare tire kit and I did not have to change the dogleg. I did howerver have to remove the rod that ties the two tailpipes together behind the bumper, but the pipes will centre fine in the openings, with little movement.

I have a full size spare mounted in the location that the Trailblazer intended. I also have the Corsa Sport cat-back. No mods were required in the installation of the Corsa system. And it sounds fabulous

Corsa Exhaust

Thanks to all for the replies so far. For those who have a spare installed, what size are you running? I have a P225-60R17. And my Trailblazer winch is mounted to the right of the tire such that I can engage the winch control rod by inserting it in the space above and between the right exhaust tip and the rear fascia. There is clearance now between the stock exhaust and the winch but if the Corsa has a straighter run than the stock exhaust pipe on the passenger side as it heads back to the exhaust outlet in the fascia, that could be another possible area of interference. Has this been a problem for anyone?

You need to have the tallest tire possible. The intention is to match the rear tire height of the 295/40-20 that we have on the rear. By doing that, you will eliminate harm to the torsen differential system.

Rear SSR tire height = 29.2"

Space available between the hitch and the panhard bar = 29.0"

Closest match for tire height is 225/65-17 = 28.6" - 28.7" (depending on brand)

The perfect size is a 235/65-17, but it won't fit in the space available......

Mike will the tire size be an issue with a 6-speed. Also, would it be better to move the front wheel to the rear and put the spare on the front?

Our winch inserts between the facia and the Corsa tip. It works fine.
Our spare is 225/60-17
We installed this way back in the spring of '06. My spare tire installation and battery relocation

Dear Turnheadz:
I have an 04 "R" and I have had a Touring model of the Corsa on there for about 4 years. I love it. I am really interested in Mikes spare tire kit and want to pull the trigger on one, except I really don't want to deal with any fabrication.. please can I do this with a smaller spare tire (like a donut) using mike's kit, and not have to fab or cut my crossmember..Any guidence will help..RLCulster

sorry, I'm not familiar with Mike's kit. When we put ours on, there was no "kits". We were the first to mount the spare, no fab to the tire but the battery is another matter
