Diablo predator a waist of time of I have a bad LS2

I used a diablo predator to do a tune on my 05 SSR, did the stock tune and also did a custom tune where I change things and all I can say is that it was a waist of my money. First of all it would not read the p/n if I pull #27 from under the hood, I did pull 11 27 & 41 from fuse box behind right seat as per the book but if I pull the 27 from the fuse box in the engine the tuner could not read and would not work, also I did notice that even with the key off if you plug the unit in it had power and would boot up.

After doing the two different tunes I went for a nice long ride in between and there was no difference at all, I went back and fourth between the stock tune the two different tunes from the unit and the only difference I saw is that I was able to make the engine run cooler when I change the temp setting for the fan.

From I got my SSR I was disappointed in the performance of the LS2 now with this predator I am even more disappointed, there must be something wrong with my SSR as it does have the performance that I read about from others on this forum, right now my SSR only look good but runs just like a V6 sure not a so called LS2. I have driven just about every other car out there including a 07 S65 AMG (my every day car) right down to a Lexus 400H high bread and that has more power than my SSR and can burn rubber which the SSR can not do. Also I now hear the click or ping from the rear end, I hear it on hard take off and when I let go the gas again and before the tune I did not hear it at all. Have no idea what to do or where to go for help to see if I do have a problem with my engine as going to the dealer would be a waist of time as there is now codes for them to check anything and there would just say they could not find anything wrong,

I now believe that is why the first owner sold it as I found out that they had it in two time for some problem with the way it drove and dealer could not find anything wrong, right now I feel like getting ride of it and get something else.

Well first of all if there were something wrong with the LS2 there would prob be check eng, light on. These are heavy trucks but Kool one's. the diablo may be bad that can happen with anything you buy, I have heard they are very good tuner's. A tuner alone may not give you what your looking for? IE: gears, corvette throttle body,K&N air kit, torque converter, Corvette servo, exhaust. To add just a few upgrades. Not to say taking it to a tech that can run a scan for any stored codes would be a bad thing.
But don't give up on your SSR, I was going to do the same thing glad I didn't. After I made my changes the get up and go is ten times better than chevy had it. And learned what worked and what didn't on here. Even a SUPERCHARGER makes a huge diff with the power also. Contact mile@diablo on here he's cool guy and he's a diablo rep..Just my buck 25's worth, but don't give up the fight keep swinging, and Iam sure others will also add thier coments on this......pasta Mike

Why don't you re-install the factory tune, then check your 0-60 time......then compare it to the factory specs. Then, put the Diablo performance tune back in and check the 0-60 time.
If you're not getting anywhere near the 0-60 time that the factory says you would get, then you have a problem. Otherwise, you either need to go to a 4.10 or 4.56 rear end or add a supercharger if you really want that much more performance.

Good luck.

Re read your instructions 1 big mistake do not pull fuse 27 in the underhood fuse box that powers the ECM. The Preditor is supposed to power up with the ignition off anly after you have picked your tranny and tune do you turn on the ignition don't try to get too fancy at first use the Diablo tune and see how you like that before you try programming individual parameters

I never pull any fuses on my 2006, just up and down on the e-brake to keep the lights off,

I run the performance tune with and a plus 15 on fuel in low rpm range and a plus 20 on high rpm range to prevent pre-detonation

I run the magnaflow exhaust and K&N cold air kit.

The tune makes a big difference

You are correct, you really dont have to worry about pulling any fuses without onstar just pull the "E" brake, and download tune.

You are leaving hp on the table with the added fueling. Lean is fast and rich is safe. Unless you are running a diesel.

Back to the original post. The tuner will make very little diffrence in performance. 20hp max. And from my experince it has taken a good tank of fuel for th etruck to learn itself with the programmer. If you bought the SSR because you thought it was a performance vehicle, all i can say is I am sorry. It is far fom it, mostley all show and a little go. The LS2 has been discontinued also as GM is moving on to the LX engine version with the "6 bolt per cylinder" head instead of the 4 bolt like the LS2 has.

i fyou want performace bo buy a Viper GTS or a ZO6, if you want to ride around insomethign diffrent keep the SSR and enjoy it. I for one cannot see spending thousands and thousands of dollars on the truck trying to improve it's performace and still be outran by alot of factory production cars.. Or diesels...

I'm sorry, I don't get or agree with this the idea that this truck has no performance capabilities. Yes its beautiful, yes it's a great cruser, but yes it also has the potential to be a runner. With the LS2 it is far from being a slouch compared to most turcks out there, and it out handles just about all trucks and most hum drum "sport" sedans. For the performance minded both the 5.3 and the 6.0 have lots of potential. I bought mine new for $14,000 under sticker and with about 6000 in mods, I now have a 4750 lb truck that runs in the 12's with Corvette's, and performance trucks like the SRT10 and the Lightnings. I bought a truck that looks fast and and did what it took to make it walk the talk. It's not a flimsy machine, it has a robust frame, good brakes, and a transmission and rear end built to take it.
I am not knocking anyone who is satisfied with it as it is, we all have different needs. But, but with all due respect for differing opinions, I just can't accept the view that the SSR has to be all show and no go, and that it's a waste of time and money to put in the go. It just isn't so.

I think that you could probably go to any high performance forum and see the same things breaking down. I have no intentions of getting into an argument here, I'll just shrug my shoulders in disbelief and agree to disagree with the SSR's are not performance camp. We all agree tho, that our SSR's are beautiful.
Peace

Please lsit these mods that put your truck into the 12's in the 1/4 mile for under $6k. You cannot even buy a magnacharger for that price and if you are spraying it with NOS it won't be long before you will be spendingmore money. I have been drag racing everything from Diesels, to motorcycles to 10.5 outlaw cars for over 15 years now.

You said it has a robust frame? Come on it is a trailblazer frame that has been chopped up and re-welded. A transmission built to take HP? Nope you are wrong there also, GM put tq managment on this truck so they could use a weaker transmission and get away with the LS2 abusing it. If you want to go fast there are allot of diffrent choices out there that will outperform the SSR for alot less money.

I like the SSR but there is just no way I can take all this smoke be blowing about it. It is a nice cruiser, and that is about all it will ever be.

I agree ..

Some mods will make the SSR's drive train work less, and others will help the eng run better. I think its in the driving habits of the owner that will make or brake the truck. If you run hard all the time some thing will give, just like with anything you beat on. Will the SSR brake any speed records don't thing so. Its just a matter of ones own choice as to upgrade or not and stay stock. Everyone compares the SSR to Corvettes it seems thats kool, I drive in both worlds. But I saw this afternoon on 441, a awsome looking and sounding black GTO. The one with the same LS2 in it, well this thing growled like a grizzly and then took off, that thing was gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess what we all need to do is have and take great pride in what we drive either stock or with hot up grades. Because what really counts is this great country AMERICA where we live and can drive where and what we want to...........................

I run it rich to prevent knocking and pinging. Even on 93 octane it will ping without added fuel.

Why did you pull fuse #27?? That kills everthing, no wonder you couldn't read it. Read the directions then go bash your SSR on a VW site!

Talk with DetTweety about what he did with his and his improvements. Also maybe at the next Jersey meet (or even sooner) you can get a ride in another 05 to see the difference in preformance between yours and theirs.

When I used the Diablo on my '03, I saw a gain of ~0.3 seconds in 0-60 time. I didn't think it was worth it for having to put in 93 octane instead of 87 (remember '03's only need 87). If you would like to borrow my accelerometer for a week or 2, we can arrange that.

contacting mike@diablo will get you all the answers to the diablo questions you need....

Good luck.

About the Predator Tuning...for 05-06 SSR's...

Well if in fact he did pull those fuses for numbers 11, 27, and 41 he would not be able to even install the code to reprogram to computer. First order of business should have been to call Diablo Sport first before even calling this product a waste of money. Their phone number is located in the instruction manual and on their website.

As an owner of a base model 06 SSR I was told to not pull any fuses at all. All I had to do was plug the thing into the port turn the key to the on position NOT START the motor but in the on Position...then the predator should immediately scan your computer and begin the back up proceeder of factory tune. And after thats done simply select the Predator Tune option...then watch your truck have a slight seizure for about 10-20 seconds follow the on screen instructions and unplug when it prompts you to.

SIMPLE...the idea of the tune is to gain Rear Wheel Horse Power...I believe it's 10-20hp...and you should notice it right as you get on the throttle right off...my GOD it was a noticable difference. Though I can't speak for the manual tranny boys but with the automatic it allows the motor to gain horse power at later shift points rather than the factory short shifting patterns.

And for what ever reason you want to milk that LS-2's ability for greater HP you can take it to an authorized Diablo Sport Predator dealer pay like $145 for unlimited tuning on their dyno until your satisfied with the results. Heck I am going to eventually opt to do this later this year now that I have a K&N Cold Air Charger Kit in my truck.

The predater does nothing for shifting on the 05-06 Auto trucks. These vehicles come with a seperate TCM that controls the shift points and firmness.
