Do they have any noise restrictions there?
I know in MA if it is to loud = no inspection sticker.
I was pulled over for loud side exhaust many years ago.
I told him it was stock from the factory. He let me go.
I don't know what the complaint is about loud exhaust from the SSR.
People ride Harley's with straight pipes, They get inspection stickers.????
I have side pipes on my SSR and I also have a Harley with straight pipes. And my SSR drowned out my Harley so much so the cops stopped me here in Florida and had to disconnect them. But found some cork screw type of baffles that are to be better for sound and not kill the low end power for the side pipes. Once I have them connected I'll try to post a sound clip of them.

Pasta.
Keep us posted when you get the baffles in. Hopefully you will be able to do a sound clip.
I did my 03 last weekend for just over 15 dollars and 30 minutes of labor. The 03 and 04 have a different exhaust set up than the 05 and 06. The older models need an 18 inch piece of straight pipe ($5) and a 12" piece of flex ($6)
and 3 clamps ($4) from Pep Boys. I used a sawsall with a fine blade and cut the pipe just before the muffler input and just after the muffler output. I clamped on the straight pipe at the front then the flex pipe to the rear. The muffler is about 22 inches long then add about 2 inches each end for cutting room = 24 inches then 3 inches of overlap each end for clamping =30 inches.
My sounds incredible!! It is still much quieter than my 67 Chevy pickup with headers and dual Cherry Bombs.
Now the second sound clip is AWESOME great job and sound....
Olaf's R sounds mean! That is the sound I have been looking for. Now I need to look for a muffler shop that can do a decent fabrication of the new straight pipe aft of the cat's Y pipe and a Y connector pipe to merge back into the dual outlet pipes. Thanks guy's for locating the sound clips.
Here is what I am planning on doing.
I have to get the SSR inspected every March.
I am going to cut both pipes after the muffler and have flanges welded on both pipes.
Remove the muffler by unbolting the one front flange and the two rear flanges.
Make up a straight pipe assembly with flanges using the muffler assembly as a template.
Run the straight pipes until the Winter.
Replace the straight pipes over the Winter with the muffler.
Get my SSR inspected in March with the muffler on.
Switch back to the straight pipes after the inspection.
If I change my mind about the straight pipes just have the section modified to install a small muffler or two.
I'll post pictures and cost when I have it done. (Next week I hope.)

I may face the same complication here in Calif. if they look under the R during emmissions testing and don't see a muffler. That seems like a fail safe idea to flange up the stock muffler and flange the straight pipe section to be able to interchange them for whatever reason you choose. I am planning to do the same type of install so would really like to see your install pics. Thanks, Richard.
Well I did it today.
Took the SSR to Lou's Custom Exhaust in Plymouth, MA.
He removed the muffler and installed a 3" into two 2.5" "Y" pipe into two Sweet Thunder 24" chambered exhaust pipes.
I still have mufflers. There just not very big.
I don't think it will matter where you are within a 1 mile radius.
Your still going to hear it.
Just wait until I have the rest of the work done.
You will all be behind me for sure.
Uh Oh This sounds like a CHALLENGE ..... Do I smell the scent of burning rubber???? Hooo Boy do I love to instigate this stuff.. Oh Yeah who is the fastest in New England???? Thass whut I'm tawkin about. I'm voting for the Fat man in the quiet Yellow truck

That smell would be my exhaust going into your air intake.
Start your diet now "Fat man in the quiet Yellow truck".

Hey Dan...
Now I know we're friends and all that, but I thought we proved who had the fastest color last year before all of my engine mods. Sorry, I can't race you now - I have Gold Fish in the front seat -

Dan (poppa) drove my SSR today so I could make a video of it in motion with the new exhaust. Unfortunatly the conversion process takes away from the sound of the original clip.
Mike's are not straight pipes.
They are true duals with mufflers.
The mufflers are a 2.5" perforated core wrapped with stainless steel wool inside a 6" diameter outer shell. Yes, you can see straight through them and they have a sound similar to glasspacks..... Heavy rumble at idle, smooth purr at cruise and at WOT.... they tell the guy next to you that "your truck does NOT play well with others"....... The only people that have complained about the sound are the ones that you are leaving in the dust.
Yup...... they are true duals, with no crossover, X-pipe or Y-pipe to soften the sound.
