Found out today that Flowmaster has a new muffler out, I think it is called the
"Super 44" a 40 series muffler. Supposed to sound like the old "Glass-Packs" from way back when.
Anyone else hear about this new item??? Tom
I was watching horse power tv or could have been what ever was on after it but they had the making of flowmasters on and was showing the hp gain with their mufflers, Not only did they say the flows make more hp than any other muffler out there it made more hp than open headers on the dyno, That was hard for me to believe

this new muffler is supposed to generate 19 hp.......
almost sounds to good to be true

I concur with that as well. Heard the 44 on Double-D's TBSS a week or so ago and it sounds pretty good (they also did the resonator delete). Not real loud, but a nice rumble.

Yes I got the 40. I can't imagine what the 44 would sound like. DARN! Maybe I'll have to sell my 40 in a couple of months and try the 44. I'll try to get more info.

Here's a couple pics of the Super 44. One in diamond plating! Cool!
I don't know guys, I think the 40 sounds tougher than the S44, at least on the sound clips it does. First link is the S44, second is the 40. click "sound clip" underneath the photo.

The second one does sound tougher. Looks to me like there both 40 series. I maybe wrong but I don't think that is the sound of the Supper 44, I do not think they have the sound clip on there site yet. I will call them Monday.

Does anyone know if the inlet is 3.00 and the outlet 2.5? Ebay has some good deals on Flowmaster and I want to make sure of the size. Mine is the 2006 SSR.
thanks,
Mark

Arizdare, I just measured the 40 that I took out. The opening is a 2 1/2 on my 03. 05 & 06 may be different. Can anyone confirm on the 05 & 06??

I called them.......You can't hear the Super 44 clip by clicking on the top bar clips. You have to click on Mufflers.......Click on the Super 44 muffler.......Click on sound clip. The Super 44 sounds weak to me. I'm going with the 40....Part # 430402. Hope it fits. Anyone know the difference from the 40 and super 40 ?
I had actually thought about removing the muffler and adding a set of SuperTrapp exhausts...
I had a set of the 5" SuperTrapps, each one had 18 discs in it, on a '76 vette with a 350 in it and it sounded wicked...

I recently installed the Super 40 and the muffler shop recommended it because they said the 40 would be too loud. The Super 40 is louder and better sounding than the stock muffler... but it is not just right yet. I could stand a little more rumble. I was thinking of the Super 44, but I'm waiting to hear from someone who has actually heard the difference between the Super 44 and the Super 40 on an SSR.
My SSR: 2006 Blue over Primer'd Bondo 6spd #23424 slapped together 2/22/06
I researched this fully last year. I installed several mufflers on my 2006 6 speed...including the Flowmaster Super 40 and the 40. I ended up going with STRAIGHT PIPE, which is PERFECT. No one could have convinced me to do this until I spent $$$$ trying different mufflers trying to get that "sound". I thought it would be tooooooooooo loud, but it's NOT AT ALL. Automatics are probably a different story, since they cruise at a higher RPM....but straight pipe is quiet and rumbly at idle, quiet at 70, but like a cannon shot when you slam it. I'd like to compare it side by side to Mike's system on a 6 speed. I bet they sound close...
Hey all! I am new to the forum, but have had my 2004 SSR for about 2 1/2 years. Just found this site about 3 weeks ago when looking for a tuner (went with the Predator). I have found sooooo much good info, it is amazing. And just in time. Since then, I have had my cooling fan fail, and also had them check out the notorious drive shaft "tink" noise. Both the stock fan and the drive shaft were replaced, and Ol' Yeller is back in action.
I am also looking at going to a Flowmaster muffler for my 2004. Also considering dualing all the way back, but I need to read more here on this site and see what others have done that worked well. I will either do a Super 44 if I stay non-dual although change it to dual past the muffler, or go full dual. If anyone has a good shop in the north Dallas area (I am NE of McKinney) that does good work, please let me know. I want to be sure that I get a good shop that does good work.
Again, I have not read the entire forum yet, but has anyone done a full dual system back, including dual cats, mufflers, etc? If so, what were the results for power, and what are the things I need to look out for? I am currently fully stock on the engine and drivetrain, other than the Predator tuner and an Amsoil filter.
I would love to get some low-end power, at least enough to get some noise out of the tires off the line. Right now, even with TC off, I get nadda. I know it is a heavy truck, so I may just be battling physics. I am not really looking to replace the rear gears to a 4.10, etc at this point in time. Funny that I am worried about squealing tires, since I am not a real wild man when it comes to driving Ol' Yeller, but I would like to have it there for some fun every now and then.
Thanks to all who have posted and given me sooo much info in the short time I have been here. Great to have this kind of info available. I will assist anytime I can. If you are in the Dallas area and need anything, let me know.
Well I put a 50 series on my 04 a couple years ago, Thought about the 40, Glad I didn't, The 50 was just right but after I got some more power it was loud but not to bad when you got up to speed, The more power you have the louder your mufflers are, I added just a little more power this year and now it is way to loud for even me, The guy that I race with he drives a 7 sec. super pro and it is to loud for him but the big one is the wife, She said that has got to go, Even up to speed you can't hear the radio and when you talk it is what, What, What, I think the thing is to loud and I love the sound of open headers but after you drive a while it starts to get to you, I have been looking for a good performance muffler that is not so loud, Not much luck and the shop isn't having much luck, Might be something to remember if you plan on making more power later
What did you do to "add more power" last year and this year? I am stock right now, and do not plan to do anything more radical than the exhaust. I want a more aggressive sound than what the stock provides. The wife is not a problem, as she also thinks it needs something deeper.
I have read the other posts about the Super 40's not being very loud, and they went to straight pipes. I guess it is all subjective and comes down to just what the driver wants for sound.
I will have to do some more research on the various FlowMasters and try to make a decision. Hopefully I can find a good exhaust shop here in Dallas that can assist me in the final process.
