Flywheel

In my continuing project to improve my SSR, I have been thinking that a lighter flywheel could greatly improve the response all around. Has anybody looked into this yet? Does anyone know it the flywheel is as heavy as I percieve it. There are obviously some electronic interventions that keep the engine from slowing down too quickly that add to the heavy feel, but I feel it when reving up also.

I would be reluctant to shave too much weight out of the flywheel on such a heavy vehicle. It'll be like going from your 4.10s back to the 3.73 for getting your SSR to start rolling. Once you are going it's fine. With the SC you could get away with a little more since you are making more power which will help compensate for the change.

Ask a member called Walleye about the lighter flywheel before you purchase one. He had one on his Doug Rippie 412 CI and went back to the stock setup.

lighter flywheel

I tried a different clutch and switched back to the stock one. The lighter flywheel is working fine. I have around 600 punds torque to the engine. Doug Rippie Motorsport at Buffalo Minnesota hit the nail on the head when he told me my SSR now goes like a raped ape!!!
