I purchased a Black 2004 SSR from Idaho with 700 miles on it,,,,Drove it back to Texas and enjoyed the ride except the bounce and wheel movement in the steering wheel....after 1500 or so mile I took it to Discount Tire and had the wheels rebalanced (20" fronts and 22" rears, Toyo Proxes ST) The balance helped some but still not satisfied with the wheel movement at 70 plus miles per hour. I have been reading about these stabalizer plates and bars to head in this condition....Do you believe this may be the issue? someone please inform me if this is common on a 2004 SSR?
With just 700 mile, my guess is those tires got a flat spot from setting all those years. Add a little more air to each tire for awhile and see if that helps.

I do have some flat spots on my tires from sitting too long, they will eventually fade with driving.
Once I find out the root cause/correction, I will post it.
It's probably the tires sitting too long. I have a 2004 with 3000 miles and didn't experience what you are experiencing. The LC32 and Stiffening Plate is something you will probably end up doing because it is the "rage" around here. I added those and things really became tighter for the SSR. Try that, get an alignment, let the tires smooth out and see how it all works out for you. One thing I do know is that most real car lovers notice the slightest things going on with their car. It almost becomes part of them. Even the slightest rattles and little squeaks within a car's cabin keeps us up at night.

Kate was an estate sale and I was forewarned about the tires being flat spotted. I purchased a new set but when she was delivered I didn't notice much so decided to drive her for a while and they evened out with no issues. I am surprised the tire shop did not advise you of this.
I have a TR6 I drive about every 4-5 years (whenever I move) and it can rattle the fillings in your teeth for a few miles but it evens out eventually also. Mind you, the tires are original.

Left Coast's crossmember, and Mike's plate, will stop it from trying to follow the truck ruts in the pavement. From the looks of things, the roads are only going to get worse.

Try the trailblazer crossmember, it is cheap and easy and does stiffen up the chasis. Not as much as LC32 crossmember and Mike's plate I'm sure but it does help. Also remember it is a convertable so it going to have some shake, nature of not having a fixed roof.
Is the Trailblazer cross member the one under the rear cab the extends from under the driver seat to the passenger seat? If it is, one is already there.

All SSR came with one round crossmember. If you take a close look you will see there is a second set of unused bolt holes next to the existing crossmember. These unused bolt holes will allow you to use and additional SSR crossmember or remove the existing SSR crossmember and add the Trailblazer crossmember.

Thanks for the photos and the help.....I went an ordered another rod to add to the firest one and someone posted that he added a plate under the two rods...I believe that is what I will do to my dreamasphapt..........thanks.....

I would add the steel radator support first before anything just because the original radator support is plastic not only does it stiffen up the ride it also gives you piece of mind that if you hit something in the road your radator will not fall through the bottom. Mike Simple Enginering has these supports four bolts remove old support and replace with new one. Just my 2 cents.

Wanted to update all that my vibration seems to have faded.
I recently replaced the shocks upgraded to bilstein's and I have not noticed the shimmy at 70mph like I once did.
My shake and shimmy in my 03 comes in the front end when I hid a minor bump, hole, manhole cover in speeds of 45+ miles. It shakes the steering wheel, can't figure out if the front suspension is that stiff or if there is another issue. Comments please ~ thanks
I not going to change my shocks yet....my chrome stock wheels will be back next week or so, and will put new tires on them.. Hope the shimmy and shake will go away...if it don't I'll try the shocks....Tire maybe General Grabbers, or Toyo Proxes st II, or ?????

Changing the crossbrace from the single tube used on the SSR, to the four bolt brace used on the long wheelbase Trailblazer, took a lot of the shake out of the dash.
But it took West Coast's crossmember, and Mike's plate, to seriously tighten up the front end so it doesn't judder on bumps, and doesn't wander on truck ruts.
All of the above on stock tires and suspension.

Ordered some tires on May 5th, Hope to get them soon so we can determine if the tires are the cause of the shake at 65 to 70 mph...ordered Continental Conticross the same size a the stock tires with the stock chromed wheels....Maybe soon we will find out..

I have those tires on mine for over a year now and am well pleased with them. I get a little viberation in mine when it sits till the tires warm up and then smooths out.
Got my stock size Continental Conticross UHP's on today. So far good smooth ride...Have not gone over 60 yet....We had a rain storm today in San Marcos, Austin area, so I went straight home to put the SSR up, thought it might have some hail to deal with. We will post more results soon...

It was nice to enjoy that rain today wasn't it? I, too was concerned about hail.
Glad to know you are in the area, we should do a ride some time.
