Question Gear & Servo info

Hi guys & gals. I am really in the dark and need a bit of help. First off, everybody talks about putting the vette servo into the tranny. Exactly what does this do, and what is involved for the install? Secondly, I'm really thinking about putting the 4.56 gears into my 05/auto. What company's parts, and install kit are recommended? Also i have a Diablo Predator programer, that claims in the instructions that it will adjust the compter for a gear adjustment. Is this the truth, or do I need to send the PCM/ speedo out to be recalibrated? Any and all help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks guys.

biggussy: The microtuners like the Predator can do the speedo correction on the 03/04 SSRs. They cannot do it on the 05/06 SSRs because the 05/06 SSRs use a different "CAN" architecture for their electronics, and the correction must be made via tuning software.

Do a search on "microtuners" and "tuning software" to understand the differences better. I did a BUNCH of psotings on these back in 2005.

PCMforless.com Bryan Herter is the man. $250.00 and a couple days and that 4.56 will make you smile, every mile.

thanks

Thanks guys, after all the info, I'm waiting for greg to get back to work so I can order the vette servo from him, and I found a good used PCM from cleveland pick a part (just down the street from me). That i'm going to have sent out to be recalibrated. The only question I have left is how offers the best service and price when it comes to buying the gears & install kit? I've heard American Axle, and Strange mentioned. Any pro's or cons with either? Would anybody have part numbers for what I need? and what kind of fluid are you running in the rear end after the swap?
thanks

American Axle is I am pretty sure what GM used for factory gears, and Strange is always high qualoty, bu probably lots more expensive than the American Axle. The key to success is REALLY good installation by someone VERY EXPERIENCED in rear axle setup specifically. If it's done wrong, it will be noisy at best, and shortlived at worst.

Use a good synthetic (for minimized power loss) rear axle lubricant.

thanks a lot jim. Do you know if GM still requires the limited slip additive be put in too? I know a few older posi equipt cars I had, and even my 93 chevy P/U seemed to perform better with it. Also Is the gear size 8.5 or 8.6? I've heard both and not sure which to believe. And to to top everything off, I did get an appointment with a performance outfit not too far from me, that's ready able and willing to do the install, and give me a hell of a warranty on their work. So now its just a matter of getting the parts ordered, and my quick little becomes my crazy fast little rocket ship.

Hey Big, welcome to the club !! I`ve had my AA 4.56`s for some time now, from J&S, and I love`m. Amsoil gear lube does not require additive. Must be others out there, but Amsoil for sure. Not sure of the answers to your other questions, but Jim is sure to know.......Paul

The 6-speed SSRs defintiely want the limited slip additive. It could be argued that the all-gear Torsen on the automatics should not need it, but I am not positive. The shop that did my own SSR insisted it should be in there, and I cannot see how it could possibly hurt.

Hey Big - first, welcome to the forum from N.E. FL.

I have an '05 auto as well and got my American Axle 4.56 from Fuel Injection Specialists in San Antonio 210.654.0774. Make sure and get the install kit with the gears.

As you've read, the parts are one thing.....finding someone who can install them right is the key but sounds like you may have that taken care of.

Good luck and start your money jar for new rear tires now!
