Gear Vendor Overdrive

Has anyone put a Gear Vendor Overdrive behind a 4L65E Automatic in their
SSR?

Maybe someone can help me on the forum seach function. How do you search for a phrase like "Gear Vendor". When I search I get hundred of hits.

Thanks,

Vettarosa

These the folks you are looking for?

Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.

Having doubts this is an available application for our trucks...

Maybe a phone call directly to them is the answer for those interested in the application

Doesn't the tail housing for a 4L60E match the one for a 4L65E? They have several adapters for the 4L60E transmissions.

Example:
Part #3D4L61E
Automatic 4-Speed 4L60E - 6 Bolt Housing.
Replaces 6 bolt housing.
99 and newer with 6 bolt extension housing.

Chuck's Speed Center in Phoenix installed the Gear Vendors in my F-250 and they mentioned that they had installed one in an SSR.

The Gear Vendors overdrive is pretty much bulltet proof.

Ran one for over 14 years on a 4 x 4 Chev dually crew cab. Only ever had one problem with it - I was in 4 wheel drive in slushy snow. Moisture got to the electronic override switch that kept it from kicking in while in 4 wheel mode. Led to an overly exciting ride when the back wheels decided to try to pass the front ones.

Made sure we re-sealed that switch properly after that - no further issues.

The application issue shouldn't be a problem - the only "adaptible" part is the collar that matches whatever transmission it's going to be attached to. The driveshaft will need to be cut to length, unless they can also supply the correct driveshaft.

I'd call them to see if they have an adapter for the 4L65E.

The 4L60E and 4L65E share the same external dimensions so the GV 6 bolt unit will work with our transmissions.

I'm really surprised some Hot Shoe on this forum hasn't installed a Gear Vendor
OD yet.

I was thinking 4.56 Gears and a Gear Vendor OD would be the best of both worlds with the added benefit of eliminating the 1st to 2nd RPM drop.

Any thoughts????

VR: I started the thread about a 6 speed manual sometime ago with Greg. I've been contemplating the vendor gear for some time but haven't done it yet. I have a modified 04 (LS-6 motor) with nitrous with about 500hp to the rear wheels. I wanted to go with a supercharger but every time I go on an extended leave they go on sale and I miss the opportunity (just missed this recent one again). I have 4:56's on my R and it pulls good and strong...I was trying to find away to get the highway gas mileage back again. Not sure the money spent for the vendor gear would be worth it though. Lot of money for a 2 MPG (or less) increase.

I should think the reduction in wear and tear on the driveline, would be more valuable than the increased gas mileage. But that would be pretty tough to quantify, in order to determine payback on the unit. Sometimes ya gotta go with guy feeling.
