My SSR: Black 2005 - Loaded
To Give An Inch ? ? ?
I recently acquired my ’05 from my father, and am trying to make it my own. (She only has 14k miles.)
I am struggling with the thought of lowering it. However, I have many misgivings.
I lowered my last vehicle. Coincidentally, it had only 14k miles at the time it was lowered.
I loved the look and the ride. However, after only 1 year, (and less than 8k additional miles), my factory struts were GONE.
When I replaced the struts, I pulled the Eibach’s and re-installed factory springs. I was not willing to sacrifice my new Bilstein’s for the sake of a better look.
For those of you who have lowered your ‘R’, what has been your ‘long-term’ experience with your shocks? Did they wear-out prematurely, too?

Lowered mine a few years back. One of the best things I've ever done. Handles better, back end doesn't kick out like it used to around corners, and center of gravity is more midline rather than being top heavy. Changed out sway bars at the same time to Hochkiss as well as using Eibach springs.
It been a little more then a couple of years since mine was lowered with Eibach’s and like hdflstf, never going back to stock.
Oh ... and it almost a daily driver too.
Mine is lowered & LOVE IT!! No problems with the shocks.. The tail end use to get away from me at low speeds...Lowered it, sway bar & its never happened since.. "Corners like its on rails" Tee hee hee

I lowered my 05 with Eibachs, and as I recall the instructions indicated how much to trim the bump-stops. Don't forget to align the front end and adjust the headlights. The ride and handling were both good.

There has been a number of reports about the OEM Bilsteins puking oil past the seals. Some at normal ride height on a new truck and others after having the truck on a lift with the suspension fully extended. While it may seem random in nature, the root cause has been identified by Bilstein and rectified with the aftermarket replacement shocks. The non-OEM Bilsteins that can be purchased now have triple lip seals on the shafts and an improved valving to actually make the "R" ride better. The rear shocks are actually larger in diameter than the OEM units.
If you are interested in replacing yours, you can contact Mark at Shox.com in San Diego for a set. His number is 1-800-683-2890. Tell him you are an SSR fanatic and he'll give you the best price possible. I think it's about $260 for a set of 4.... He's been supporting us for over 5 years.

belltech drop struts in front and in rear belltech drop springs with belltech shocks i have many customers over 30k miles no problems and truck rides great.
The stock ssr spring rate is better than anything out there your much better off keeping the front stock springs and using the belltech drop struts they are valved for more performance than the stock bilsteins.
Anything else just hollar ive done tons of ssrs from drop struts to full coilover set ups
you can email me and i can send you over 10 peoples info you can email and talk to them all happy with the kits i set them up with also on this forum many peopl were happy with the kits i set them up with

Got her leveled, now . . .
Addco sway bars and rear Eibach springs installed.
I'm liking the new 'leveled' look.
Don't think I'll install the front springs.
It just looks too good without them.
The ride with the new sway bars is quite nice, too.
