Question Horsepower question

What is the rear wheel horsepower of an SSR with a 6 speed vs auto? IMHO, a stock LS-2 6 speed would lose about 15% and automatics always lose at least 20 percent or more.

My guess is a 6 speed has 340 hp to the rearwheels where as the autos have at most 316hp to the wheels. I know that many if not most on this board have a better understanding of this issue than I so maybe they will chime in.

Rule of thumb is 20% loss on manuals, 25% on auto's.

Do a search, hdflstf, Mike in AZ and Jim Gnitecki have posted tables, by RPM, in the past.

Doug, I did a search before posting and could not find the info. Maybe I am not using the search correctly. But, for now I need to go an practice the best way to plant those ponies to the pavement.

Sure us 6 speed owners want you to post the sheet. I also have the K&N cold air kit and a Magnafloww cat back. Some day I'll get around to doing the gears. My 3.73 are dead quiet and hate to have a whine like my old El Camino had at 38 to 55 mph.

I've got American Axle 4.10 gears installed in four of our five SSR's, two six speeds and two auto's. Never had an issue with noise.

I also had a set of AA 4.56's in Hellvis for about a year, no noise.

Factory gears are hit or miss on noise. Mine has a whine during the transition from pulling to coasting, not that bad now, but I am looking for it to get worse. As for aftermarket gears, it's all about how they were installed. If they were setup correct according to the manufacture there should not be any noise. I have done rear gears over the years and have never had one to whine when setup right.

Thanks for all the input on gears and I just need to do it. I wishh AA gears were still around. I'm sure there's a set on a shelf some where. I'd like to step up to 4.10 for when I put my Harley on the trailer.
Thanks
Tom

Long ago, when I was working for Kanuika's Speed Shop, there were two types of gear sets for the rear. Street gears were hardened for long life on the road, and drag racing gears were softer, so they wouldn't crack/snap from the tremendous shock of hole shots. But the race gears, being softer, would wear quicker on the road. I don't know if this is still true today, but might be something to ask the vendor about.

In our experiance the SSR Autos and 6 Speeds actually dyno real close to the same numbers.

The reason behind the same numbers on the dyno is the difference between the 10 bolt and 14 bolt rears used.

The 10 bolt has less loss of HP then the 14 bolt given the same vehicle.

I would have thought that the automatic would eat up more power than the the 14 bolt.

I happen to know of a used set of AA 4.10's that were removed from the Rocket Man's (hdflstf) SSR when he installed the 4.56 set I removed from Hellvis.....

When you removed the 4.56 from Hellvis what did you install?
