Improving MPG's

Hi, I did a search but couldn't find any posts, yes, I know all you guys want more power, performance, but how about improving the mpg's? Anyone? At the risk of offending you purists, how about a diesel engine swap?

Duke: Use the search capability using as key words "fuel mileage" and look for the threads I have posted. I have previously posted some very meticulously obtained fuel mileage information.

We don't need to alter our engines for better mileage. We just need to drive like little old ladies. See the data.

woohoo: Gosh, now I'm embarassed. I get 17 to almost 19 mpg on my morning commute into work. I must be driving WAY more conservatively than a little old lady! Oh, the humiliation of it . . .

However, the drive HOME is terrible gas mileage: typically 14 to 14.5 mpg. Lots of stop and go at that time. So, if I average my numbers, maybe I can qualify as a bit less conservative than a little old lady . . . .

Please clarify "diablo tune". Do you buy the unit, tune the engine, then that's it, you own the tuner but it's not installed in the car, just use the thing to tune. Unlike a power chip that has the program on it???

Duke: All your questions on microtuners versus tuning software can be answered by doing a search on this site using as key "microtuner" and "tuning software".

No first you have to have a SSR that puts out the power without hurting the mileage, Super charged and the good parts to go with it, Now the mileage, You find a tractor and trailer and you just get in behind him and watch the mileage go up, That shows the aerodynamics of the SSR really sucks, Semi driver know what people are doing when they get behind them and some of them don't like it

Aero may suck, but someone on on the forum, someone from LCC, I believe, recently stated that the SSR has the best aerodynamics of any pickup on the road.

Jim, I did a search, there is really to much garbage mixed in with the good info. I was able to find enough to get a basic understanding, but boy it's difficult using the search. Why are there not more FAQ's on this board? Other boards I visit have faqs that are concise and very east to find info.

Yes it is a hand held unit in which you download a tune to your truck. There are 2 tunes an 87 tune and a 93 octane tune. You connect the tuner via the aldl port, and answer the questions on the screen. After an upload of your stock information and then loads your performance tune. You can modify the shift firmness, fan on/off, rev limiters and so on. After it is done put the hand held up.. if you ever need to take it for warranty work just connect it back and re-load the stock tune...

You will get replies stating that you do not have to put it back to stock as your dealer is not allowed to flash your PCM without your permission...I for one think this is B.S. as if there is an update they will do it.. I like the diablosport tuner and will continue to use them on anything I own and if they make one for it...

Duke: Are you volunteering to create an FAQ section?

Seriously, if you wnt everything in one place and organized, get my e-book "The SSR Experience".

Come on Jim, I'm not THAT stupid! Still, my point on FAQs is based on my years involved with VW's. Many of the boards I use have them, or even a forum on a specific area. So let's say I see a ebay auction that's going to expire soon and I need a quick answer on compatability or a part number. Or I need help with a mechanical problem so I can start the car and get to work. I simply go to the FAQ and have my answer in minutes. Using the search feature could take hours if not days to find.

Your e-book sounds interesting, I may get one although 1/2 the info in there I really don't need. Apparently I'm the only SSR owner who doesn't want or need more power. haha.

Thanks Boosted! Exactly what I was looking for. Now all I need to know is if I can "detune" the engine for optimum efficiency instead of improved power/performance.
