Smile MAF Screen Removal ?

Wondering how many of you Fanatics have removed your honey comb looking screen from the Mass Air Flow sensor in the air intake? I understand only the 05 and 06 models had them. What were the results in terms of performance, as in throttle response etc. (better or worse)? Is removing it stiil recommened?

I have had mine out for several years and I recommend not using it. I think my truck runs better with it out. I cannot see how it could not hurt performance but the only real way to eliminate all throttle lag is to get a computer tune.

Jeremy removes them as part of his tune.

Had mine tuned and screen removed 4yrs ago.

Not sure what happens without the tune.

PM Jeremy, Fastproms on our Site.

The 04's did have one. The only reason for the screen is to allign the air flow "straight" so that the wire sensors can read the incoming air better. So it was explained to me by several tech's. Mine did seem to perform better without the screen, "seat of the Pants' feel. and mine has been removed for over 5 years now.. Also consider rerouting the hot water feed from the engine to the MAF, as it doesn't make any since to preheat air going into the engine. Supposedly it's to make less polution in the warm up period of the engine.. yeah right .. The cafe laws of california can suck on my exhaust pipe..

Took mine out at the same time I pulled the ECM fuse to reset the computer (to get back on on the high Octane fuel schedule) right after I bought the truck in SC and drove to my home at the time in Vegas. I noticed a difference but I think this was largely due to resetting the ECM.

The heated throttle body was 03-04 only, the LS2's in the 05-06's donot have the heated throttle bodys.

1. On my '03, the heated throttle body was disconnected when the supercharger was installed.

2. This image is the Mass Air Flow Sensor on my '03. Are the tiny wires connected to the sensor? I almost thought they were the result of debris during manufacturing and took them off. Whew!

The tiny wires are the sensor! The SSR uses a hot wire MAF. A current is passed through the wires and as air is drawn into the engine the wires cool and more power is required to keep them at the set temp.
