Magna Supercharger Advantages

I am a first time SSR buyer and looking at buying a very low mileage 2004 with what the seller is saying a delearship installed $10,000 Magna Supercharger that will add 100 HP. How true is this and are there any disadvantages to having the supercharger? Will the SSR perform as good as the 6.0 L motor in the 05/06s?

I am in the final tuning stage of a Magnacharger install on an '03.

First, $10,000 is about $3,000 too much.

Second, 100 extra horsepower looks to be pretty much what the outcome of this install will be after the tune.

Third, the only disadvantage I see is that it really sucks up the fuel if you have a lead foot - otherwise, gas mileage isn't much different than the normally aspirated 5.3.

I can't make the comparison to the '05/'06, but it looks like the final horsepower count will be around 370 ARW on my supercharged '03.

When I first got my SSR, I was disappointed in the horsepower. Even though it had an aluminum-block 5.3, the truck is so heavy that it didn't have the "throw-you-back-in-the-seat" power that I was expecting. I felt that it didn't live up to its reputation, similar to (but not the same as) as six-cylinder mustang or camaro. With the supercharger, I'm feeling much better about that now. Since I do an occasional autocross, I also added Addco sway bars and Eibach lowering springs; but I'm trying to hold off on the Simple Engineering stability plate.

Unless you're rich, you gotta draw the line somewhere!

Tory, you should talk to 2005SSR6Speed, our resident Magnacharger guru. He can answer any questions you have.

Oh, and welcome to the family.
