Agree with Budhorse and Cajun that the General Grabber is an excellent choice:
From previous CajunSSR post >>Want a GREAT tire? #1 Scrap the Goodyears! #2 Adjust the sizes to a better fit and keep the rake and improve the handling #3 Tire Rack...General Grabber UHP! I went with the 275/45-19 front & 295/45-20 rear....kept the same rake, it has plenty of clearance, speedometer only off 1-2 mph@70, and handles like a road racer now! No road noise, smooth ride and the most awesome looking tread w/lots of it! Best of all.....They are the best priced as a set compared to all the other brands! Check them out.....<<

Hey, Speak of "CajunSSR" and he shows up......Here's the pictures I have(From Tire Rack). Yes, they are the Best replacements in my humble opinion. But you will have to adjust the sizes slightly..to 275/45-19 & 295/45-20

I'm with Art on this. The Firestone Wide Ovals are great. Same sizes and just put 3K miles on them this month on a road trip. No slight vibrations at varying sppeds that GY's had. Also got the lifetime balance, alignment etc from the store for $149.
Those 45's on the back give 3mph inaccuracy on the speedo at 75. I usually run 9mph over the limit on the highway....that 3mph might have me on the roadside with flashing lights in the mirror if the Valentine1 wasn't on

Nothing like pushing your own product. THe only thing I can figure the GY dealer manager must have been burned by a previous fanatic who needed tires and waited months to get them. So he just decided to steer R owners in another direction.
It's hard for me to get very excited about any product from Firestone/Bridgestone. I had to deal with the Firestone 500 fiasco with one of my old Mustangs and my niece was lucky to survive a roll-over in west Texas when her boyfriend's Ranger with ATX's flipped 3 times a number of years back due to tread failure.
Have the General Grabber UHP as my 17" spare to closely match the diameters of the OEM Goodyears on O'Ylr. Looks like a good tire but I'm hoping it will never see the ground.
P/P....Them Goodyears are "trash" & the Firestones are not only harder to find but, Winter conditions are not favorable for the Wide Ovals! The adjustments on sizes was the only concern about the Generals UHPs "UNTIL" I put them on and took it down the highway. The rear now sits Meaner, like its full of tire, and the wider fronts make so much difference in a hard curve....I thought I was back in my C4 Corvette handling like a dream. The speedometer is not a worry either, recalibrate it or just do the speed limit on the dial and your getting your extra mph to keep you ahead of the everyday Joes! Oh, one more thing, the size difference gives you just a tad more clearance in the pot wholes like we have here in the Bayou state of Louisiana! Good Luck!
After considerable research, I learned that the stock RSA's are basically good for nothing which I concur based on my own experience. I ended up getting the Continental Cross Contact UHP tires. Although the front tire has to be a 40 series instead of a 45, the actual diameter of the tire is exactly as the same as the stock Goodyear. Weird I know but check the specifications. I have had them for almost a year now and I can tell you they are definitely better than the Goodyears. My SSR now feels more sure footed than it ever has. I took one of my favorite curved entrance ramps and can tell you when pushed they deliver!
Basically my suggestion to all is based on the research I did and my personal experience, you are better off purchasing anything but the stock Goodyears if you want your SSR to handle better and drive better. I purchased mine from the Tire Rack and have nothing but good things to say about them. Hope this helps. Also, I think Continental has a promotion right now.

cajun....had no trouble getting the Firestones.......they even gave me $100 off the set of 4 when I asked about promotions.....which didn't exist at that time.
The GY's don't wear evenly......as time went on...now I had almost 30K miles on them.....I would get vibrations at 3 different speeds between 50 and 80 mph. Drove me nuts. Rebalance did nothing to correct it.
Checked other brands and sizes but a big deal for me is tire road noise, more so than handling, cornering, etc. Am on the road a lot so its important along with a vibrationless ride. Just my quirks.
BTY...are you going to Crusin' The Coast to Biloxi in October???

Have had My R since new in Dec 2004, the factory GY RSA's lasted 18K, replaced with Goodrich Gforce KDA, huge improvment, but $1300. They were thin after 24K, just replaced them with General Grabber UHP, 295/45/20- 275/45/19, wow! the difference in ride and noise is huge, best tires yet and only $800 out the door..
and my chin spoiler is an inch higher from damage

What does the size change do to the alinment and speedo?
After the tire size change, no Alignment changes were needed when I had it rechecked at the tire shop. I did not recalibrate the speed-o because it was so little difference according to my TomTom GPS. It was only 3 MPH off @ 70mph and really was not worth the hassle. FYI.... I also run only 32 PSI in the Generals. These are Great Tires!
My SSR: 2003 "Ilsa" True Duals w/Jones Glasspacks, Eibach Springs, Addco Sway Bars, 4.56 Gears
I was surprised to find out that the stock tire sizes were 40 in back and 45 in front. I got Ilsa used with new Goodrich Gforce KDW's and they were 40's in front and back. Maybe that's why the air dam bottoms out even though the suspension isn't lowered.

After a lot of time researching new tires, I just went ahead with an order from Tire Rack for the General Grabbers.
Discount Tire said they could not provide them until end of November.
If anyone needs to speak to a rep at Tire Rack please call:
888-353-5082 and ask for Ext. 742.
Chad was extremely helpful, and I expect my new tires to arrive Thursday at my wife's dealership, in Scottsdale, where they will be installed.
