seams (sic) like we need some example of engines coming apart. Spell check might make the claims a little more believable as well.

But then again, mines come apart a few times.................

and gone right back together

Mr Rocket dude
I don't think that Double L is talking about your SSR as much as he is talking about your comments. Some times the smartest people don't know when to shut up. Eh?

Get Jeremy's tune. He can set fan temp and increase youre horsepower. He can really wake up the 5.3 litre motors. Don't need all these extras for over heating problems. Mine never goes over 210 in bumper to bumper traffic.

I am putting Mikes fans in... Everybody can't say enough good things about him....

I am just a bit unsure of the 35 poster, and all seem to be sales pitches...
more like a salesfanatic not an SSRFANATIC .

But I have no reason to believe that they are not great fans just like he says they are. I could be missing out ....

but I am gonna stick with mike...

Joe,
At what temp is it "overheating"? You do know that the normal operating temp for these trucks is similar to Corvettes and gets pretty hot in normal operation. Have you owned the truck for a long time and it just started acting up or????

The low speed OEM fan comes on at 219 and the high speed not until 235. If you drive in traffic on a warm day it could certainly get to 235-240 and still be operating at OEM specs. Many people, me included, do not like seeing the warmer temps even though it is supposed to operate that way.

After you changed out the fan did you drive it on a cool day or early in the morning thinking it was "fixed" and then drive it on a warmer day and see it had higher temps again? The only way to see cooler temperatures all the time is to have the fan come on at an earlier temp than the OEM spec.

A temperature controller will "cure" it or you could have your computer reprogrammed by someone or get a handheld tuner to make the change yourself. I used a Superchips programmer and it works fine, I never get above 210 with the OEM fan. But like I mentioned above and other have noted here, there are a few alternatives to get what I think you are looking for.

Don't get me wrong Mikes fan is great. I have one but temp was still high. Didn't get it under control until I had Jeremys tune done. I think all these other things are just gizmos.

Regardless of what fan you have installed, your '04 should regulate the temperature at 195-200. If it is regulating at 210, you need to change the t-stat. GM P/N 12600171.

If your temp is rising in stop-and-go traffic, turn on the A/C. That will force the main fan to run.... otherwise, the main fan will not turn on until 226F.

Regards,

Mike

Yes, my game plan is the main and aux fans, flush and fill, new thermostat and hoses. gonna get it all up to snuff as I have no idea what previous owners did or did not take care of. and I don't think I am running hot at this time... better safe than sorry.
