I have installed the two bar set up when driving the beautiful california freeways this last weekend you could actaully tell it smoothed out alot less shuddering and flexing around. we got some lousy roads they call freeways here

I have installed over 12 of the Wide flate crossmember with the 4 bolts. I like the way the frame stiffens up. I have one on our truck on the way to Flagstaff. Yellowtub and us took some vary winding road that were posted ar 20mph we did slow down to 40mph on some . The boddy roll anf the frt end push was not present. While in Durango I took off my bar and reinstalled it on a other Fanatic's Truck and put his old bar on out truck What a trip home I had to slow down on the curves becuse the frt end push and body roll was back. The secound thing I did when I got home was to get a wide flat crossmember and 4 bolt to installed in the truck.
The first thing was to wash the truck after we unpacked.
thanks for the weigh in on the four bolt. anybody got a weight on the tube w/bolts?
Anybody that installed the four bolt crossbars want to sell me their tubes w/bolts?
I want to try a double bar with a web (or two) welded in, might have to ruin a few to see it it's strong enough. Thanks, Bob

12 of em? Still have the old tube crossbars? Wanna sell em? Bob
Iv'e got an 03 that I installed the GM full box type crossmember on. It is a heavy steel hollow stamped and welded design. It has strength adding steel spacers welded at the bolt locations. I got it from GM for $35.00.It seems to do a good job especialy with the top down.

I just added mine to the 03 and everything went smooth.......
I have read all the posts on the crossmember. Some say the two bar set up is as good as the solid crossmember and that the solid crossmember is overkill. Others say the solid crossmember is superior. Do you really think there is a distinqishable difference between two bars set up and the solid member? The reason I am hesitating on the solid flat piece is because I don't like the way it looks installed and an engineer fried of mine thought it could make things to stiff and potentially cause premature failure or wear on other components. If it truly is superior, then I guess it would be O.K.. Has anyone tried both and compared them? Thanks!

My wife and I went from San Diego Caiforina to Durango Colorado with the Flat 4 bolt crossmember. We found that the truck had less shake and no body roll and in the corners it handled vary well ,tight. In Durango I installed it on a Fanatics Truck and put his Bar on Ours for the trip home. The bopdy roll was back and did not seem to stick in the same turn as on the way out. I vote for the four bolt bar. But you need to do you own test to get the feel that you want. the bar only hangs down 3/8 on a inch. you do have to step way back to see it. One good thing with the 4 bolt set up is the bar cannot shift like the two bolt design. I have found a bunch of them that have been moving once we took them off to look.

Question for those using the round bar.
For those using the two round bars set up, is the 2nd bar rubbing up against the fuel tank?
I ended up with the flat bar, gave my round bar to another fanatic & when he put it on the other day, it was pressing up against the tank which didn't seem right so we pitch my old round bar and said the hell with it.

My two bars don't even come close to the tank a good 1 1/2". Suggest you buddy check his tank to make sure it's attached right and hasn't come loose at the attachments. Tank has an indent for the bars, make sure that is aligned (see pic below)...
He might have the bars on wrong upside down which would put them closer to the tank. Pic below shows correct install.

well I finally got around to installing the additional cross brace and WOW, what a difference an $8 bar can make.
I noticed it right off on my favorite curves, but didn't say anything to Mrs. OP and later took her for a ride throughout the day hitting many curvy roads, while top was down and later she commented on how much flatter the SSR seemed on curves and didn't feel the "lean" or flex like she used to...I then told her about the upgrade. She was real happy to learn it was only $8
I drove down on Sunday to Hurricane Ike country with the top up to and from (4 hours each way) and the SSR felt even more tight than before.
VERY HAPPY with this addition. thanks to all who recommended...
Yesterday, Umpire13 installed the 4 bolt on Hawk and I installed Bear's. I drove Bear today, and the 3 places en-route I checked it out, it made a noticeable difference. My 2high, banked, sweeping off ramps I usually take at 75-80, the steering was tighter and I did not get the plowing effect going over the expansion joints in the concrete. On the 6 block 'chuck hole' the frame, 'A' pillar, and stowed roof did not shake and rattle as much. It still does, but it's not annoying anymore. Sway bars next?
Hawk was out in rush hour traffic and didn't have a space to check it out.
Do you have a good lead for two of these cross members for my 2003?
I installed the trailblazer 4 bolt bar this past Tuesday. I have to admit that it definitely makes the SSR feel more "solid" especially with the roof up. I believe I feel less shaking with the roof down, but I can feel a distinct difference with the roof up. Best/cheapest mod I've done to my SSR.
