I have always been partial to Magnaflow. You'll need a 2.5 inch inlet/outlet with offset inlet and outlet as well. I just finished putting one on my 04 last weekend.

Although I used a 14 inch (20 overall) to get a little more sound out of it, for a more direct fit to existing tubing an 18 inch (24 overall) would be best as the stock muffler is 22 inches long. You have 2 choices, polished (14366) and satin (11266) finish, both are stainless.

You should be able to get them around $70 for satin and $100 for polished.

No, the picture you show is the 05-06 style, the 03-04 has a single in single out. The 03-04 splits after the single outlet at about the axle area.

I've had both year SSR's and put Magnaflows on both. That is not to say that you could not modify an 03-04 to an 05-06 style. I think most everything else is the same size except the inlet for the 05-06 is 3 inches.

I looked at EBay where they have a ton of systems for sale, the system you show will work, they are for a complete replacement from the catalytic converter back. You can pay $700 to have larger piping from the cat back and duals come out a few inches earlier or spend $70 for a higher flowing muffler. The 6 liter motor flows a little more air so I think the 3 inch exhaust and dual out muffler might help it a little. The 5.3 may or may not get more out of a cat back conversion when compared to just a higher flowing muffler.

I took off the stock muffler and went with a Thrush " Walker" very good sound, some improved performance and all for under twenty five dollars, on my 04.

Well that's a new twist, any sound clips? Not sure I ever heard a Thrush on an SSR, unique is good!

Sorry Dragon, I do not have a sound clip, the Thrush is just about the same design as the Magna Flow the Walker series is Thrush's most agressive series I believe. I was thinking about using a Cherry Bomb and I still might as I like a nice loud agressive sound. However the Thrush has no drone sound at high speeds and sounds great crusing around town.

My 05 has a 3" inlet and 2ea. 2.5" outlets. I know this because a few weeks ago I replaced my stock muffler with a Flowmaster Super 44. Love the sound! Don't notice any more performance but it sounds faster!!

I used the FlowMaster 44s on my , however I had a customer system installed with 2 mufflers. We had to relocate the OX sensor and flanged the crossover pipe so that we could remove the transmission, if needed.

I decided to just replace the muffler only at this time. Went with a Dynomax VT.. WOW, it sounds great!! Nice and quiet on the highway and around town with that muscle car rumble. When you get in it, it opens up big time! Just what I wanted... NICE!!

That muffler looks cool! How much of a hair-trigger is the spring? Does it basically do ALL of NONE, or does it come on through the rev range? Which one did you use? Dynomax doesn't list the SSR

Correct, they don't list one. This is the one I used and it worked out great. Only had to make one short extension about 6 inches long. The valve starts to opens up at around 2500 to 3000 rpm under moderate throttle. If you punch it, it opens up full..

Out of curiosity, why didn't you go for the 17959? The 159 is listed for engines under 4 litres, the 959 for over 4 litres...

The only deference between the 17159 and the 17959 is that the 959 has a stronger spring. Which means it will open later or at higher RPM's, someplace around 3500 or so. I wanted the lighter spring, I have run Dynomax in the past and know what the sound would be. I just wanted it a little quieter at the lower RPM's, not dead quiet.

I can tell you it worked out perfect...

Interesting! And THAT is why its worth asking questions

Have you run the VTs before? I read the concerns in the other thread about noisy valves. Is there an audible rattle or clank when the valve opens or closes?

slicks, when the valve is full open is that sort of like a straight pipe?

I have run the Dynomax Ultra's not the VT's. In regards to the valve, no noise, just nice noise..

Well, sorta.. Its Dynomax's type of straight through technology. I have used the Dynomax Ultras in the past. These are the same muffler only with this new valve technology. Works great..
