I used a new part number for the Alternator and got away from the vented case design. The new part number gives a solid blow through case with the front fan behind the pulley. This is the 200 amp version and it can be ordered in 145 amp also. I wasn't sure it would fit okay, but everything is perfect even with the supercharger. It was slightly less money then the stock style alt we have right now. The alt comes with a small pigtail to plug into the stock harness and the hole for the positive cable needs to be opened up just a little. It bolts up and the belt alignment is perfect.
The part number for the polished 200 amp version is 8219NEP and the price was $370.00 plus shipping.

That's the Magnavolt unit. It changes (ups) the voltage to the fuel pump for the supercharger. More boost more voltage = more fuel pressure.
Ah, so now I know what it was I saw on Focks' SSR (he's got the supercharger too). I thought it was some type of aux logic module. However, isn't increasing the voltage going to burn out the pump? I know it's a lot of work, but wouldn't it be safer to drop the tank to replace the pump with a higher volume unit?

Kind of my thoughts too and I think there are others that can provide a better answer. My understanding is that the voltage to the pump is increased with increasing boost resulting in higher fuel pressure which is a way to get more fuel through the injector when using the boost.
I am a bit curious as to the voltage at which the stock pump is run and what the range is with the magnavolt. If I recall correctly, the supercharger kit includes new (larger) injectors so it would be possible to run the fuel pump at lower than stock voltage under no boost conditions and then up to stock voltage under boost. That way we wouldn't be going above any design limits on the stock pump. Maybe one of our resident experts can verify if this is indeed correct - Joe??
It only steps the voltage up by 3 volts, the difference is not there all the time either. The Magnavolt uses an rpm signal and boost signal to increase the voltage over 3500 rpm's. If you are not in boost over 3500 rpm's then it continues to provide the stock input to the pump. Like wise if you are under 3500 rpm's and boosting it will not increase the voltage until it meets both boost and rpm requirements. This is the same system used on a lot of Turbo, Supercharged and Naturally Aspirated application that require more preasure at higher rpm's. By doing this it makes it much easier to tune and you wont have a lot of black soot in your exhaust when running around town while not in boost.

By comparison, the approach used on the 03/04 SSR Magnacharger kits is actually better in my opinion.
There, they provide a SECOND fuel pump that simply attaches, in series, with the existing in-tank pump, into the fuel line OUTSIDE the fuel tank. This makes for an easy install. It is based on the fact that when two pumps are placed in SERIES, not parallel, both output pressure AND output volume can be increased while actually UNDERstressing each of the two pumps. Elegant solution.
Technical experts endorse this approach in books on supercharging.
Jim - The only reason this can not be done on the new return-less systems is that the Fuel Pressure Regulator is in the tank with the pump. There were no drop-in pumps for the new system when the development was done for the LS2. To this date don't know of any aftermarket drop in pumps that will outperform the stock pump/regulator setup. A conversion to a totally different system could be used to negate the use of the MagnaVolt but at what cost?

HOW MANY AMP ALTERNATOR IS THE FACTORY ONE? HOW MUCH IS THE CHROME 145 AMP ALTERNATOR? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP...
I do like the change in the housing, it is much easier to clean when polished.
Please make sure to call them so you get the right alt for your SSR. This alt that I used was not listed for the SSR, it came with a pigtail connector to hook up to the stock harness.
