Let me start by saying that I've know Joe (2005SSR6Speed) for about 2 years and like most anyone who's talked with Joe knows 3 things about him.
1 he is very very knowledgable about our vehicals
2 he is very willing to help out anyone
3 he's as honest as the day is long
It is because of this I persued Joe into becoming his partner in Leftcoast 32. I look forward to working with Joe in the future as both of our motives are the same, help the customers get what they want with the service they deserve. With all that being said let's talk about the project vehical.
Currently I've got a 2005 SSR Aqua Blur with a 6 speed. Modifications included front/rear sway bars, and lowering the back end. 22" rims on the back with 20's up front. Magnuson 112 supercharger, Dynateck 1 3/4 long tube headers, high flow cats, 3" custom exhaust, magnaflow 3" in/out mufflers, Corvette throtle body, and one of Joe's hot tunes. this produced 518 hp with 515 fpt at the rear wheels.
Seeing Joe's latest build I challenged him with the following. I want to build a fast streat leagal SSR that will perform with his Trailblazer SS. But doing it on Pump gas. For the most part Joe has it all set up, I only made a few of the decesions. Increased the the engine size to 7 liters, decide on the style of rims to put on this bad boy as the current meats ain't going to do the trick.
The engine was removed on Thanksgiving weekend when Joe and his significant other made the trek to my neck of the woods( A 5 hour drive ). Like I said Joe is willing to go out of his way to help anyone. He arrived Friday afternoon, he did a tune on the wife's 2006 Z06 corvette, then we dinner and got to bed early as the next day started early.
At 6am we went for a Starbucks run. Then the fun began and 12 hours later the engine was out, striped down to nothing, and ready for him to take back to California. The only time I remember us stopping was for lunch. Joe has a big bladder as he never took a pit stop, but drank coffee all day long.
The next day was pretty much cleaning up the mess from the day before and tweaking the tune on the wife's car some more. The other bit of criteria given to Joe was the SSR has to be faster than the Z06.
I will turn it over to Joe at this point to give his information on this build as he is much better suited to talk about the technical details of this build.
Thanks Joe for all you've done up to this point and all I'm going to put you through in the near future.

Reason: 122 listed instead of 112
This is going to be a great build. Mine was built as a small displacement and gobs of boost. Hanks build will be a big cubic inch an 10 psi of boost on pump gas. It will have monster torque!!!
To handle the 700+ RWTQ we will be using some Drag Radials on Custom Made Wheels.
We will start loading pictures with technical information starting tomorrow!

I brought the block back to California and ran it over to Steve at Race Engine Developement to have Darton Dry Sleeves Installed with a final bore of 4.120, Notch for 4" Stroke and to Dowel the Main Caps. The final bore size will be 4.125 which will be achieved by Kenny Duttweiller at Duttweiller Performance. He currently has the block and will finish the short block in 1-2 weeks.

I'm assuming the notches are for rod clearance.
Has the block been, or need to be sonic tested?
When the block was bored...Was the series in line? Just curious as to how close the stock alignment was.

The notches are for rod clearance with the 4" stroke Crank that will go in it.
The block was cut for the sleeves by one of the designers for Darton Sleeves. He sets up all the programs on cutting the blocks, installing the sleeves and assuring the bore are cut perfectly. The nice thing about these aftermarket sleeves is that you know exactly how thick the sleeves are and the perfect centers for the bores as the block is cut for the sleeves. Kenny Duttweiller will check the block and finish the hone to bring it to 4.125.
My block in the TrailBlazer SS had to be bored .010 over to clean the alignment on one bank. The great part about sleeves is that they cut and install them precisely.

Joe,
Why are you disassembling the top end in the truck? Surely the heads don't have to be removed for clearance reason do they?
It was just easier to get to all the transmission bolts and other small items. We will be installing the block without the heads and then putting the heads on once the block is all buttoned up.
