Phoenix Transmission

After having a cam, headers, exhaust and tune by RPM I was amazed at the power difference. After all that it still was not enough off the line. I had Phoenix install a torque converter and WOW! It will now boil the tires when you stomp it. They build their own converters specifically for the SSR. If you really want to launch your SSR I HIGHLY recommend getting a converter from Phoenix. They are about 100 miles from me but the drive was worth it. They installed it while I waited (about 3 hours). If you're not in the area they can ship you one and have your local tranny shop install it. Only problem now is trying to keep my foot out of it. The local Carrolton police were not impressed the other day when they caught me playing. It didn't help that it's screaming red, loud and my license plate says HOT2GO.

Congrats! Phoenix is pretty cool. They used me as a guinea pig on the servo for the SSR and it was a good improvement. The tranny rebuild is on the list for them to do after the 4:10 gears and tune.
Drive safe and save some rubber for the road.

You are going to have to work on your self control issues now but it is mighty hard to resist letting the boy come out to play...

It's all your fault Greg! I feel like a kid with my first hot rod. I used to think my Chevelle's and Camaro's were quick but the SSR would smoke any of my old cars. Ain't technology great?

I spent the weekend up in Tulsa with my brothers who are also car enthusiasts and we had several conversations around the same theme. That while we love old cars, there is really nothing like the new performance cars available today for all that new technology provides. A few minor tweeks to these newer hot rods and they will outperform some of the fiercest muscle cars we grew up with. We are trully living in the new "Golden Age" of the performance car.

Isn't life sweet when your old enough to have driven some of the badest factory Muscal cars and now see what can happen with modern toys from the same boys. I loved all my GTOs and Camaro's Chevelles and El Camino's but This
SSR 6 speed is everything anyone could want and some.

We build a variety of stall speeds depending on application. Most SSR's get a 3000 stall converter, which is what we installed in Double Troubles and the same one I used in my own SSR. We build these to be fairly tight at low rpm so you don't notice it much at low speeds but when you nail the throttle it will flash higher and dramatically improve acceleration.

The Phoenix torque converter is well worth the money. It really wakes this truck up!

I agree Nancy. I don't know which stall speed Greg put in mine, but it absolutely rolls my Firestones thru 2nd gear when you stand on it.......just have to be careful where you do it!!

I'm going to chime in here. The converter AND tranny in the SSR I just sold to CrossCheckFreak are from Greg and his team, and Greg is also going to build the tranny for "Red", my new project vehicle.

Greg's team is truly pro all the way, and really know how to make your tranny work and feel RIGHT.
