Thumbs up Poll on replacement tires

Many threads on tires, thought I'd start a poll so we can see the numbers of which tire is favored when it's time for new ones...

It would be nice to be able to mark more than one box in the poll as I've run the GY (they suck), Dunlop, and Firestone. If the Firestones last longer than the Dunlops, I'm sold..

Just order 4 new Firestones the other day as my front left tire has a damage core.
Those Goodyears had 27K plus miles plus they're five years old.

I actually think the Continental and the General UHP's are the same tire. I think Pete, (SSRFATHER) has these and they look almost exactly like my Generals.

New option is a Michelin 275/45r 19 for the front and 315/35r 20 for the rear, they are called Latutide Tour HP. They are expensive, but they are another choice.. Jim H

I believe there are just a few tire plants that make tires however they make the tires to each Names spec's. So tires could look the same but one might have higher requirements, better quality added to them then others...

I have Toyo Proxes S/T, but they're not 'II'

I love 'em. Better traction in all weather than the OEM tires. And they look 100x better.

Really liked the Pirelli Scorpions, but when they wore down a little too quickly, looked but couldn't find Toyo's from Discount so went back to factory EOMs. Oh, well... On my second full set of tires, with 61K miles overall.

Bridgestone Dueler HP

I purchased a pair of 315/35-20's for the rear. They are about 1/2" shorter in overall height, but a full two inches wider in the tread. The look from the rear is awesome and the traction is great. They really fill out the wheel wells nicely.

There was also a matching pair of 255/45-19's for the front. Nice look, great steering.

Overall very quiet. That's both good and bad........ I can't get a chirp out of second gear any more. The 4L65 was giving me about two full tire rotations on a shift to second and now it just snaps your neck.

TOYO,s S/T

Not the s/t II,s. Can,tBelive anyone would but the goodyears back on other than price. Goodyears followed every line in the highways and the TOYO,s just drove straight down the road. Like going from a model t to a cadillac.Have 32,000 miles . May have to get new fronts because of cupping on inside and outside before long. MY only complaint. Front end in perfect alignment. WIDE TIRES are the problem. MY opion. Denny

Mike,

How does the shorter, wider tire effect your speedo? Does it show more than actual? By the way, the aux fan works great in the hot weather we have had. Got caught in a traffic jam in 100+ heat index and my R ran cool as could be. Cal

Got my "Wide Ovals" on yesterday. Much better ride and it seem a more quite inside the cab at freeway speeds.

Purchased Toyo S/T's for my R two years ago, and for Lady SSR about 18 mo. ago.....hers are doing fine but I just replaced my fronts with the S/T II's. (different tread pattern but holding power is great!! The TOYO's have about twice the grab of the OEM's).. The only detriment to the TOYO's is the fronts are a different compound (wear rated at 240 while the rears are rated at 420)We love the TOYOs

Thumbs up I Bought Generals

I put on a set of Generals. At the same time, I installed the Trail Blazer cross member. The difference was amazing. It handles and holds the road much better. I didn't put many miles on it but it is a definite improvement. The real test will be in Janurary when we take it to Key West. Walter

I have had 4 sets of front tires and 3 sets of rears in just over 8k miles on mine, now have 13k on it. All of my tire replacements have been done under warranty, with them trying to get a set that was round. I know when I have to pay for tires, Goodyear won't be going back on it. I will most likely go with Toyos'.

Each of our 3 vehicles still have the OEM Goodyear tires that came with them originally. This would include '06 SSR, '07 Lexus, and '07 Honda CRV. The Lexus and CRV have each recently surpassed the 30,000 barrier and have at least another 10,000 left and probably more with the Honda.

I think sometimes people forget when comparing the new tires they just put on vs. the old tires they have removed that most any new tire is going to feel and perform much better than the old. This sometimes makes it difficult to compare tires from one brand to another. The Tire Rack does a good job of testing, comparing, and providing the low down to the consumer in my opinion.

I have not replace the tires on my yet, except I did replace one of the front tires because of a BIG curb . Thanks to VEGASSR, he took care of me, I was in not condition to change a tire, at the time. My only has 10k on it, but I am interested in seeing what is the best brand.

Do all of these different brands have the RUN FLAT feature? I don't have one of Mike's spare tires (yet) and really don't relish the idea of not having to leave the R on the side of the road while I search for a replacement tire.

The goodyears lasted 27,000 miles. Replaced them with the Firehawks. They were great in the rain and puddles. Drove straight with out any pull. It rains alot in Florida. But they only had 13,000 miles on them when I sold the R and they needed replacing. So not sure if I would recomend them.

lots of info in the 'Sticky'...TIRES

I went to Toyo's as the GY's lose grip after a bit of wear. (12k) Toyo sticks - period. Falken are great too.
I have the runflats on My Corvette and love them.
