I just put Hankooks on the rear. They stick better than the GY or BFGs I had on.

I had a BFG go flat because the tire split in the tread. I think that they weren't made for the cold and NJ pot holes, so I won't get them again.

I went to Discount Tire yesterday and the 19" BF GoodRich KDW's (which I have on my R now) have been discountinued so I have to put something else on. They had those tires listed online for $163 Front and $215 rear which is way less than I paid for the tires I have now.

Firehawks

Firestone has Internet pricing of $214.99 for the front, $239.99 for the rear plus install and balancing plus tax and $2 tire disposal. Print the quote, take it to the dealer.

My SSR has 29000 miles on the Goodyear OEMs, I noticed a small chunk of rubber gone on the inner edge of one front tire, still very good tread but I can see a steel band. The rears are getting iffy on tread, time to replace. I probably will go with the Firehawks, we have them on the Jaguar and are pleased with them.

Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval for SSR Discontinued

I called the Firestone Store today to order the Wide Ovals, discontinued. I guess I will go with the Toyo Proxe STll. It seems everyone that has them is pleased. Any comments?

all A's

The Toyos' that I have on the rear get great traction over the GY original equipment and I noticed an excellent wear of the tires even with the amount of 'rowing thru the gears' and chirps I like to get..I will replacing the front OE tires soon and plan to continue with the Toyo. Highly pleased.

Another snag!

I have been pricing the Toyo Proxie II, they don't make a 255/45R/19, they do make a 255/50R/19. that is $50 per tire higher than the 295/40R/20. Has anyone put the fronts on yet?

I bought 6 Firestone Wide Ovals fro Tire Rack in Jan 2010. (2 spares)
I had them mounted and balanced @ NTB. Note: I choose the Firestone since the size was an exact match to the GY. I did look strongly at General Grabber UHP but Discount Tire store had problem in getting them....

SPECIAL NOTE: The Firestone's were built in latter half of 2008.

Just purchased a 19" KDW2 for Babe. Still the stickiest dry road tire I could find, based on internet comparisons... plus it matches my other tires!

That 19" is a Goodrich 255/45/19? I am looking to match front and rear to OEM sizes or close on the front.

245/40/19 front. 295/45/20 rears. 1" lower in front, 1" higher in rear. A 2.5-3.0mph speedometer error (reads higher). No other real differences, as the variations are all within tolerances.

Oh Well!

I wanted a matched set of tires, not two brands, and wanted the sizes the truck came with. I was going to by the Firestones, but didn't want to blow a tire and not be able to get a replacement because they were discontinued. I was going to buy Toyo Proxies, same story, no matching 255/45/19. Other brands had the rear tires but not the fronts.

So I went back to the Goodyears. Not my first choice, but as it turned out the only choice that had the tires. I got them at Tire Easy.com. $96 each for the RSA 255/45/19, $300 each for the RSA 295/40/20. $892 with shipping to Misssippi. I have a Firestone Store that is going to install , lifetime road force balance good at any Firestone store for $80. $972 out the door.

I guess I really can't complain about the Goodyears, 30,000 miles, good tread still left on the front, but a plug repair in the edge area is a weak spot, the rears still have fairly good tread, but one has 2 plug/patch repairs, one close to the sidewall.

In my 04 owners manual, it say's to make sure that you meet the tire preformance criteria specs. (TPC) when replacing your tires.
The TPC on my Goodyear OEM's are : front 1221ms & rear 1222ms.
How does this translate when looking at other brands. ( What Do It Mean? )

Thanks

Bought the General Grabber UHP's

Ordered the General Grabber UHP's yesterday from Tire Rack. 275/45/19 front and 295/45/20 for the rears. Other members have them installed in these sizes with no rubbing or other problems, the down side is your speedo will be off by a couple of mph, but I like the tread pattern, price and the fact that they match front and rear (same manufactuirer and tire design).

Remember, if you carry a spare that's sized in between the stock tire difference, it will be further from both. Not a problem if it just has to get you a few miles to a repair shop, but if you make runs of several hundred miles in the middle of the night, and/or middle of nowhere, it might be an issue.

Last Set?

Not the last set, some are still out there, but Firestone is not making them anymore. They are making a Brigestone for the fronts.

The spare tire goes in the front only. If the rear goes out (which it never has, crossing fingers), it gets a front tire, and the spare replaces the front. The Abs doesn't like it, but the manual trans doesn't seem to mind a bit.

I decided to go with the Bridgestones. Right now 4/20/10 the dealer has a special and Bridgestone is matching it. $100 off from each, makes the set of 4 around $850.

Just got them on and WOW what a difference! No more GY for me!

I think the MICHELINS are the only way to go, they ride so much better, handle better, look real good and the best thing you will get over 60,000 miles out of them. Discount tire has them and there pricing is better than other tire stores.
