Wanted to put another note in that anyone who has an automatic transmission should PM Greg Ducato and order the servos. This has eliminated my shift problems and has made the transmission work like I had envisioned it should. It is a small investment that is worth the cost many times over.
These transmissions should come from the factory in this fashion. But, Chevy is not going to admit to their problem much less offer to make a permanent fix. I am now very happy with the fix, the shift, and the overall performance of my SSR.
Thanks, Greg, for your time in explaining to me about the product and for your quick delivery of the same!

I was having shift problems between first and second. It was almost like there was another gear, especially if you were puching it a little. It occured even more when you moved through the gears manually.
I contacted Greg Ducato after reading several posts on this website. He felt that the servos would fix my problem in that he had success with other SSRs within our group.
So, I ordered the parts and they arrived within three days. I took them to a friend of mine for installation. Took about an hour and a half.
I promise you, from the first time I went through the gear changes, I knew it was fixed. No more weird extra gear feel yet it did not cause a hard shift. It was like the transmission was finally working like Chevy had intended. It is great. Should have done this in the factory, wish I hadn't waited so long.
The price for parts is under $40 including shipping. Money well spent.

I've got that same problem & my local Chevy dealer can't fix it! How do I get hold of Gregg? Would you email me his contact info please. My email address is jimcpm@roadrunner.com
My e-mail for anyone who needs it, is greg@phoenixtrans.com I will be going out of town for a mini getaway in the finger lakes area of New York. I will be back Monday morning so if anyone doesn't get a timely reply to a question, you will know I'm not ignoring you, it's just hard to type with a drink in one hand and a fishing pole in the other.
North Texans go to Weatherford you'll be glad you did
I had Greg install his servo in my '05 yesterday. My 1st to 2nd shift hesitation is now basically gone. When I first arrived Greg allowed me to drive his '05 to see the difference, and that sold me. Thanks to Greg, William and the rest of the Phoenix crew for the best $ i've spent on my R.
It was a pleasure to meet you and work on your SSR. I loved the Corsa exhaust sytem you have, a great balance of quiet cruising and great sounds when you accelerate. I heard a nice 2nd gear tire chirp when you left the shop! Have fun with your SSR and thanks for the opportunity to help.
Hello Fanatics: Well I was going to order this servo too, until my Chevy Dealer told me (Srv mgr.) that even though it is a gm part,if the vehicle is modified, they wouldn't honor any needed warranty work! Now,my thought was if there is a need for a fix and gm has it in their parts inventory, why can't someone at gm
create a TSB to allow this model servo to be installed without any jeopardy to
warranty coverage?! Sounds like a no brainer to me!
Excellent idea if they could think 'outside the box'.
Those of us with 6 speeds seem to be having problems with the clutch - me included. I checked with a nearby dealer and he said no problem if its got the sturdier servo, so maybe you can get another opinion from another dealer. Good luck
is this servo for all years of ssr's ? i have a 2004 but haven't had anything that seems odd happen when trans shifts. is this a recommendation for all automatics to get the servo ??

My 2005 SSR have also a shift problem sometimes and iam not sure that your talking about the same problem i have: with hard/mid acceleration in "Drive"-position mine sounds like"falling" into the "neutral" just for one or two seconds. So the Rpm goes quikly high (without my SSR going faster) and than "snaps" into first gear again. Happens on the first gear only, not always but sometimes. All other shift-points are ok, happens just between 1st and 2nd.
Sorry Folks, this is a little hard to explain for me, hope you could unterstand what i try to explain...(?)
Are you talking about that same problem in this thread? Should i order/replace that "Servo"?
Thanks for your patience & Greetings from Switzerland!

Sure sounds like it to me. You should send a personal message to Greg (see post #7 above) and ask his opinion. Good Luck - and greetings from Canada.
The Servo Kit does everything you want. It's great. The only problem I had is that Comier Chevrolet charged me $564 to install it because it would take more work than initially estimated . I just think they may not have know what they were doing.

Yikes!! Call the cops - you were robbed! I paid $100 at my dealer and with the instructions that Greg sends with the parts I'm pretty sure a monkey (or even me) could do it in less than 3 hours. I think I'd look for a new dealer if I was you. My condolences and sympathy Bro.

This problem could also be the torque management stepping in but sounds much like a slip on the first to second gear shift. A Corvette servo would improve that problem. Let me know if we can help.

Ouch! This is a one hour or less type of operation by an experienced technician. I have had guys tell me they did it in their driveway in about the same time. I might be inclined to ask my dealer to show me the shop rate or warranty time to replace this component, I think they got a little carried away in billing.
Greg, thank you for your input. I have ordered some items form Mike in AZ and i ask him to contact you about my Tranny-problem, so he can order the necessary items from you. Then Mike can include that "servo" togheter with the other stuff in the shippment. In a other Thread i read somethings about a plastic vs. aluminium piston somewhere in the Transmission, which should be replaced also in some cases....(?)
Hopefully i find a well experienced garage/shop which can do this Job. Hopefully there is a good instruction coming with the Servo...(?) ....I dont want that the shop-guys playing arround on the Tranny, if they dont know how to install....also because one hour labor overhere costs about $100- to $115/per hour...
Thanks again!!

Don't worry about the plastic accumulator pistons in the trans, they will not be an issue and we have seen many with over 200K miles. The relacement only becomes a good idea when replacing accumulator springs with much higher tension parts and increasing line pressure. The servo kit comes with easy to follow instructions which are SSR specific so your tech should have no problem.
