I want to change my air filter assembley to something cool, & different....I do not want to use the K&N $464.oo over priced (Take it or Leave it) special! After all the sales of that thing it looks like the price would have come down by now!

Jeffanatic...That is what I'm talkin' about! To me that looks way better than anything else I've seen. Would you send some more close up pictures and where you got the pieces and specs? How does it attach to the top radiator plate, Does it drop or increase performance?

Bought mine much cheaper. Will add photo when weather, gets back above freezing.
You said "After all the sales of that thing it looks like the price would have come down by now" (Think about it this way, LOW Production Vehicle and two different motors 5.3 and 6.0, so two different models made. R&D vs Sales Numbers.).

And might want to check this out, it shows covers-inserts and airboxes Engine Covers & Inserts

For those who are interested here`s what I used.......

All parts are from Spectre Performance.com

1 - 97997 4" 150deg Y Tube w/ 90deg Legs 117.99

2 - 8138 P4 Cone Air Filter White @ 31.99 ea 63.98

1 - 9707 4" Low Profile Collar Clamp 15.99
______

196.97
PLUS SHIPPING

Note: Modifications to `Y` connector.....2 ends shortened approximately 4 3/4"
fairly easy cut (aluminum tube) used Saws-All with metal blade. Be sure to protect
tube from scratching.

Collar clamp, joins MAF sensor to `Y` tube, needs part of the sides of the pivot cut away.
Stainless Steel, not easy, used side cutter with ceramic blade.

I searched for a MAF adapter to fit, but couldn`t find one. The MAF is larger than the
inside dimension of the tube.

I later added the heat shields that cover the filter facing the engine...$100

As far as performance I had Jeremy Formato do a performance tune and he said that the intake actually ran 10 degrees cooler than the stock intake. Difference being that my intake heated up to stock temp faster at idle, but cooled down faster during acceleration.

There is a bit of a clearence problem with the heat shields, I had to trim them a bit to clear.

Hope this helps.

I went out and removed my stock air box, then took some measurements. Got on ebay and after about an hour I had all the pieces to build one from the throttlebody to the hood latch. I figured all together with shipping, $164.oo! Gonna pull the trigger and order all the stuff. I think I'm gonna do a thread on before & after and include all pictures. Be looking for it in the near future.
Thanks alot for all the info Jeffanatic.....BTW, I really like what you've done with you "R" & really nice homepage! Thinking out the box is so cool and really what a "True Hot Rodder" does!

Heat shields

Jeff, Did you get the heat shields from Spectre? I'm still working on an ASB factory looking shield....getting a good seal at the top but still struggling with both ends.

Stretch, yeah got them from Spectre. Didn`t do a comparison test before installing the shields, but I think they make a difference. Jeff
