Supercharger ?

Does anyone have good information on mfg, installation notes and anything you can offer? Looking to install a Supercharger at some point in the spring.

The resident expert on superchargers is Joe Delano at Left Coast 32. Joe is a Magnacharger dealer and gives tremendous support when you buy one through him. You can get him via PM at 2005SSR6Speed.

Regards,

Mike

Do your research. I sold my 2004 redline and one of the deiciding factors was I did not like the supercharger. I will not elaborate. FYI when I sold it, the supercharger actually was a negative to buyers, so don't think you will recoup much of your money invested. I am much happier with the 06 with the LS1 than the 04 with the 5.3 and Magnacharger. Others LOVE theirs and will chime in. It just a matter of choice. I went all out with the polished model...it was beautiful.....I had regrets ever having it installed. Again this is just my opinion from my personal experience and I will NEVER do it again. Don't ask why because I won't respond.

And just for the counterpoint.....

I installed the SC on my 05 (all by myself..). My only regret is that I waited so long to do it. I love it

WOW, someone had a bad experience.. I will say the cost is out of line at $7k.. Nitrous oxide is a better bang for the buck.

The heat is the problem, we have a few SCs here and they have had all types of issues, other components fail, overheating, etc. That is one of the reasons I havnt installed one on my . Now, the NOS will give you a BANG alright, but it is not the one you would be looking for!!! Just be careful and dont get over the top.

Without details, how can someone do any research?
I think this is the first negative post I've ever seen about a 5.3 with a Magnacharger.
Don't understand why you're even posted this.

I think I will start with a head and cam kit on my 06 with a tune it should make about 425-450 to the tires. When I do this I will start as post on before HP and after HP so everyone can see the difference.

Advantages are cost per HP, easy install, known tunes and very good torque vs Heat, noise and potential unit failure....one additional consideration is an intercooler. One benefit, these can catch any metal particles or fragments should the unit fracture, and they do, saving your engine.

I don't drive Hellvis much between late June and the first of October due to the 100+ temps in Phoenix.

The rest of the year it is a blast to drive, with 600 RWHP. I had a Maggie 112 installed in January of '07, and Joe Delano and Hank Wolf swapped it out for a 122 HH in October of '08. Never any problems, it's a great addition to my SSR.

24,000 miles on my SSr with a Magnacharger on it with no overheating problem , no problems at all. I think that some of the problems people have when they intall a Supercharger is created by other things they are also doing to there SSR. My drive line and engine are STOCK other then the Supercharger. NOS is a shot at a time , Supercharger is all the time !!!

silly question(because I dont know) does the super charger cause extra heat?or does the heat come from too much right foot?

Under "normal" driving conditions, the supercharger actually runs cooler. This is because (1) the fan is reprogrammed to turn on and off at different temps than OE. (2) the intercooled charger(not all are) has it's own water system (pump, radiator, and uses a seperate water resevoir. If you're just cruisin' on the highway or even in traffic, It does run cooler, and the fuel mileage also increases.(DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS) THAT DOESN'T MEAN RACING.

I agree with Doug about driving in Phoenix during the hotter summer months.
I too wish I hadn't waited so long to add mine. It's a 2300 series, bought and installed through Joe. Black magnacharger looks almost stock with a clean install. Really fun to drive. The looks you get from Vette, and Mustang drivers when you get on it is hilarious. The only drawback is every green light seems to incite races from drivers in the other lane. You really have to watch it.
I've been known to light them up even with cops in the next lane.
The SSR is great with, or without the SC.
