Cool TLAT SWITCH HAUL FAULT - grrr

I've been waiting about 2 years for a part to fix my top.
When I try to put my top up or down I get an error stating -
TLAT SWITCH HAUL FAULT - and the top doesn't move. I have to put the truck in reverse, then in drive, then in neutral... play with the switch a bit... then repeat process. Eventually the top goes up or down, but not ever without looking like a total wanker each time I want to go topless.

I ordered parts when my truck was under warranty - but they came and the dealer NEVER called me to tell me they were in. So, now that my warranty is over I thought maybe if I actually PAID to have it taken care of it would happen. 4 weeks later and still no parts to fix this issue.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there a part on my truck I can slap to make it work?

grrr.

tlat switch failure

The next time you manage to coax the flipper doors open... stop before the top starts to go down and look at the condition of the cables that allow you to manually release the flipper door latches. 3 of the 4 of my cables were damaged beyond imagination. I replaced two of them so far and when I get the next pair of cables in, I intend to take lots of pictures and post a "fix" that should prevent the outer shielding damage that occured to mine. There is a small rectangular piece of plastic that is doubble sided taped on to the inside of the truck cab, which is supposed to hold the cables in a detent that keeps the outside shielding from moving when the inside cable is pulled. In my case, both of the little pieces of plastic had moved and the cables came loose and were damaged by pulling on them while the top motor was being replaced by the dealer. I modified the plastic rectangles by drilling and adding a metal screw to each end so the cables can not drop out of their intended detent position. Like I said, I will post more along with pictures hopefully by next week. The engineering was awful and is something I would expect from Kia.

I took my truck in for this error last December and was told the parts were on back order. After 7 months of waiting I went to another dealer that said they could get the needed part, no problem. I was happy when they called me back in a week with the part but when I brought my truck in they said- "Oops, we have the wrong part". So they ordered another one and they said they now had the correct part, I dropped off the truck, they replaced the part but the problem still persists. On my truck I get the error only on the first use of the day, after that it seems to work fine- until the next day. So when I take it to the dealer and they give it a little wiggle and sprinkle their magic fairy dust on it, it seems to work- until the next day. I have another appointment with them tomorrow morning so I'll let you know if they finally have a resolution to the problem or not.

VEGASSR - Let me know how you go. I'm forwarding this link to my husband. ha.
I still don't have my parts. And I hope when I go into the dealer they don't turn me around and tell me they have the wrong parts. That will just be too much.

I shall bang my head now!

I get this error every time I attempt to lower or raise the top. I'm able to take my foot off the brake and then resume the attempt and it works everytime. I'm just concerned one time it will just be stuck permanently. I guess I better ask the dealer.

I was also getting switch fault codes going up and down. The dealer replaced the wiring harness under warranty. They were able to get it in 1 day.

I had the same problem!! It is the micro switch & the magnetic sensor for the latch assy. If the Dealer tells you you need part # 88980425 or 88980422 pm me. These are over $225 per side & I will have them for $200 for both, plus shipping. Gm quit making them & I found a few of them. It will be a few weeks before I get them...

Bill... did you ever get those parts? I could use them. My top isn't happy anymore. Now it just won't go down. And dealerships are blowing me off like I don't exist.

Zoe we feel your pain.

eBay Store ? Cleveland Pick-A-Part: Search results for SSR.

eBay Store: Search results for Schram Auto Parts.

Try these places, they both have many wrecked or salvaged SSR's in stock, more than they advertise on eBay.

1 more place called Spaulding. I believe it's in Washington State.

Good Luck!

Zoe, take a look at this thread, post 49 about using a Cadillac dealer that have Tech 2's and are real familiar with the electronics and "How Things Work".
It might be of some help.

Zoe, you need to cancel everything you have planned for May 22 and GO to the Tech Session. At least when you are there, the symptoms and what's going on with your top are in the open with folks who have been down that road before you. Stealerships don't see our trucks that often and more than likely break more than they fix. It will be a day well spent for you.

Maybe you should put Spaulding on your speed dialer & call them ever week.

Great pics, Bill... AND Most Stealerships will replace the nylon roller (black item in pic #2 with a white one) and expect the problem to be solved.
