Thanks so much everyone for all this help. And thank you Bill for your help and posting those photographs. Really. It's enabled me to intelligently explain the issue to GM and to Rydell.

I phoned Silverstar Cadillac in Thousand Oaks and they seemed to know what I was talking about more than the Chevy dealerships. I'm going to pull my truck into their lot tomorrow and beg and plead.

I now finally have a case number with GM after all this time. But, they said they'd return my call on Thursday and it's Monday. So, phoned today and was told the original person had to take care of me and he was unavailable. I just went into the entire thing again and told them about this forum and how everyone was complaining about the same thing. They seemed quite interested in knowing what the url was and made sure they spelled it correctly so hopefully they'll come in here and see the hell we're all going through. I wasn't as nice as I have been, but I think I was still too nice. grr.

Phoned Arlington and requested that part too. MUahhh! Thanks so much for checking, I can't believe how cool you all are. I don't know if they'll get my message in time, but I'm eternally hopeful. I'll know tomorrow I hope.

Having two of the dealerships I had been taking my truck in for service shut down has caused much of this mess, but having these dealerships just ship my parts back without even telling me they had come in first place was pathetic to say the least. Courtesy and Rydell (Van Nuys)... now working with Northridge Rydell hoping for something to happen.

Then, I hope they know what they're doing when they fix it since they don't see a lot of SSRs. sigh.

update

So...

I called the dealership in Arlington, Texas and Gary the parts manager said that the part isn't there and he's been waiting on one since July. He was not pleased and we vented with each other over the inability of GM to get this issue taken care of. I wonder how many SSR owners there are out there not on this forum who have the same feelings of BUMMERNESS.

GM escalated my case to someone higher up. He's called me twice, but I was unable to pick up and I'll call him tomorrow. He said he's conversing with Rydell (Thousand Oaks) by Monday.

I haven't gone to Silverstar Cadillac yet. But if anyone wants to meet me there feel free to PM me and maybe we can go in together. Not sure it's going to help, but who knows?

More later...

Just talked to GM Customer Service again - they are not up to date about this part. I suggest everyone who has a problem with this part call them so that they know there's more than one person who has an issue. 1.800-222-1020

I had to explain that the part is no longer made, the person who called me didn't know this. She said that there wasn't a solution to my issue if the parts aren't made anymore. It wasn't a good conversation.

I feel defeated.

I wish I had better answers too.
Still putting with GM. Sending a check to Niceville Bill, and calling every dealership east and west of the mississippi and north and south of the mason dixon line. Seriously.

isn't it the law that car companies have to carry parts for 10 years to fix them? can someone check that out? anyone know?

my top won't go down. i'm sad. and i don't want to get rid of my truck, i love her.

10 years was the norm, but never the law. I hope Niceville Bill's parts fixes it for you. I priced them from him too. Soon as I get a few bucks saved, I'll buy them and store them away.

Luck!

OH and...
just went to GM Parts Dealer - Genuine Wholesale Prices typed in the part numbers and was able to pay for and order them. We shall see... They are considerably more expensive than Bill's parts though.

Part numbers I need for my latches:
88980422 - Passenger side
88980425 - Drivers side

AND... Eddie at Martin Auto Group on W. Olympic in LA 800-843-9511 said he knew a guy who bought up a bunch of SSR parts when GM decided to discontinue the truck.

In any case, I'm getting the parts from Bill... AND... I'm getting the gm-parts-dealer parts... and if there's anything left over I'm willing to share.

headache. sadness. it's beautiful outside and my top won't go down.

Thanks for the clarification there Mike - I thought it was the law.

I bought a pair from Niceville Bill, also. When I bought my last snowblower, it didn't snow for three years, I hope these work as well.

Keep in mind ZOE that Bill is selling the switch assembly only (which is all that is needed) and GM is selling the switch AND the bracket...hence the price discrepency...at least in my experience since I ordered/received both...THANKS again BILL
