dmvara: Recommend you do a search of JimG past posts on this website. I love turbo's but there is a reason I have not done so on this SSR. If you are hell bent on a turbo about the only one I would recommend is a STS Turbo. The turbo's are outside of the engine compartment to reduce added engine heat. STS does not make an SSR kit so it will be a custom install.

There is a company that makes twin turbos that mount under the rearend. I saw a GTO at the 2009 SEMA show here in Las Vegas. It was interesting

That is the STS SYSTEM. Great if you NEVER drive on salty roads.

Read about a SSR Twin Turbo installation and see pictures in the following thread:

Horsepower and Torque numbers from the above install are in the following post:

At one time, a SUPERCHARGER used alot of power to make power, making it a parasitic HP add on. It only over came this disadvantage at higher (3000 or so RPM ). The turbo is "free power", using the already wasted exhaust to turn the turbo. But with todays Superchargers, the loss of power to turn the charger is very little below 2000 rpm, so there is no loss to make power. Turbos are an advantage on diesels, because they have a much higher compression ratio, and the boost pressures are eaier to control on turbos through the waste gate. The more you run up the rpms the more power it makes. It really boils down to opinion I guess. For me the supercharger makes sense.

My Stang has a Centifugal. The Mini is a 4cylinder Turbo...and it is fast for a small engine. Next time I would try a twin screw.

They say you installed a Blower so you can get to Harold's Deli before everyone else. True or False?

Have you heard of "turbo lag"? That the first thing that comes to my mind when thinking of turbo charge.

Talking turbo vs supercharger

The supercharger is great for low end and you can take off on a dime! I know I had one on mine, but I had to remove it. The drawback is they top off where as a turbo starts to rev up at the bottom and gains more and more power. So it can easily surpass a supercharger at the top. I have spoken to some care experts and they swear up and down that turbo is the way to go. With a supercharger you have to be changing out pulleys to gain more power.
Turbos tend to be quieter than supercharged systems.

my two cents. hope that helps :

Old Photo

I am not sure when this photo was taken or where..... It's in my screensaver bank of photos and i thought I'd share.......

The amount of hardware stuffed in front of the engine is phenomenal....... I would wager that this owner has a few heat issues.

If there is no intercooler plumbed, the inlet air temps have got to be horrific.

Regards,

Mike
