What gear for 1/4 mile?

Many moons ago, I recall getting advice from somebody about always racing in third gear because a certain transmission part would fail on hard launches in the "4" setting.

Can anyone remind me of that part and situation?

That would be the input sprag, you can start off in third and if need be shift to 4th at the end of the track.

The 4L60/65/70 are programmed to not shift to 4th gear under full throttle. This is done so you do not hurt a transmission that was not deigned for this. I also spoke with Trent about that today. When we race at the track it is recommended to just keep the gear selector in 3rd (less wear on internal parts) as the computer will not allow a shift to 4th under full throttle anyway.

I just leave mine 4th. as in 3rd. when you let off at the end of the track it would have a KR jump and mine just goes to 4th. with no KR, But to each his own
