My SSR: 05 Smokin Asphalt Adopted 28/8/10 Aux. Gauges, boards, Wester Tune&4:56 , TPMS, many Mikes goodies
Depends
Depends on your budget. In my case I am going with the 4:56 rear end and Wester's custom tune. (there are many out there, check the site for other options) Nothing exotic but helps the overall performance and low end as well. Also do Mike's Fan upgrade to keep things cool. Add the Frame stiffener from him as well for better handling. Greg also has a servo upgrade that is very reasonable to help the 2/3 shifts on automatics...Doing all of this only cost me about $2000.
Good luck, I'm sure more will chime in.

You should start with a performance tune such as HP Tune or Diablo tune. Their are other names for such tunes & I'm sure you can find them in using the Search Tool.
I know you are interested in performance upgrades. But, if you have not already purchased a main cooling fan from Mike in AZ do that first. Then purchase a spare ignition switch.
Well on some he is right and some he is wrong but then everyone has a opinion, You need to know the year of the SSR, What will it mainly be used for, How much have you got to spend, That would sure help
Redlined: I'll start by saying this all very addictive. I went with 4:56s in my purple 04. Then cam, headers, true duals, 1:85 roller rockers and since I opened it up a set of LS-6 heads (ported) followed by a computer tune. I took tranny to reg Ducato of Phoenix trans and it was the best thing I did for my R. Lastly bolted a 125 shot of nitrous. Did a lot of little extras on my own time (ported TB, CAI mod, fan, etc). Truck is reliable with a great little rumble and best of all runs in the low to mid 12's at the track. Haven't been to the track in a couple of years though...but every now and then I'll jump on it getting on the interstate and there is no traffic. The one and only dyno I did was before the nitro shot and it showed up as 389 at the rear. I'll assume with nitro I'm close if not there at 500.
I would start with FIRST the lower radiator support. It will give you peace of mind right off the bat. To uptain this peace of mind.... SIMPLE ENGENEERING has a steel lower support that is a must have. Then go on to the various frame stiffners out there (Trail Blazer mid "X"member, LEFT COAST/SIMPLE ENGENEERING front stiffning "X" member and front plate) then go on to the suspension. All of the H.P. in the world means nothing if the rig is ill handling.
If your pocket book permits.... I would go after the sway bars, the rear links and Panhard bar and shocks.... If lowering, then there are the springs made by Eibach and "G" Force that will lower your rig about a 1" in the front and 2" in the rear. Anything more then that and you will have to go to a adjustable coil over and after market front "A" arms to keep the front suspension geometary correct and for the rig to be able to be aligned. I myself, would go this route first and then go on to the tires and gear changes and lastly the addition of MORE H.P. if your rig has a automatic tranny in it and with the more H.P. you add to your rig, the tranny will have to strengthened also
