Has anyone started a thread on caravaning as a group from Ft. Worth area out to Flagstaff? I have looked at making it a 2-day road trip from Ft. Worth to Santa Rosa, NM (Route 66 museum) on Sunday then into Flagstaff Monday afternoon. Thoughts/comments?

SSR3, Diane and I were thinking about leaving early on Sunday and driving to Albuquerque, then Monday morning driving into Flagstaff. At least on Monday we can eat at Weck's before we leave.

The museum in Santa Rosa is OK - but for those of you willing to drive an extra two hours - and spend the night in Albuquerque - you should try visiting this museum http://www.jrvintageautos.com/. In our opinion, it is much nicer than the Santa Rosa museum - but, it is farther from Texas and would require having to pass several Indian Casinos to get to it. Also, anyone getting into Albuquerque on Friday September 2nd - our small caravan will be leaving from Albuquerque (Rio Rancho) for Flagstaff on Saturday morning- September 3rd (our reservations are for checking in on the 3rd and checking out on the 9th. Here are a few pictures of the Route 66 museum in Santa Rosa. Anyone coming from the East of Albuquerque and planning to check into Little America on Saturday September 3 - send me a PM if you'd be interested in caravaning together.

I'm not into (organized) racing - so I forgot the Unser Museum. Sorry. But I did give SSR3 a few of my recommendations for hotels in the Albuquerque area. I'm waiting for the Sandia Casino/Hotel to call me back and confirm that I could let a crowd use my Platinum players card to book a few rooms, but their 'normal' room rate is $299 per night, and the rate I could book is $89 - so if the response I get back from them is YES - IMO - THAT would be the place to stay. My other choices would be the Drury Inn at I-25 and Jefferson ($81) and the Hilton Garden Inn at I-25 and San Antonio ($71). And, if you are in town for more than the night, there is always the TRAM!

The last time we drove through Albuquerque, we stayed at the Route 66 Casino Hotel off the highway. Our own personal experience was that the hotel and room smelled of stale smoke. While the rate was inexpensive, I'm gonna pass.

Wow..... can I be your new best friend? or do you think I look like you? I LOVE the rooms at Sandia!!! They are furnished beautifully and great location!

I guess we're gonna have quite a few SSR's heading east on Firday morning.
Our small group will be staying in Albuquerque Friday night.
I was thinking of either the 66 Diner, Sadie's for an early dinner.
All options are open and up to a group vote.
What's with this "Weck's" stuff? Anything special?
Also, I though the Tram was inactive after the Labor Day Weekend?
just my .02 , the drive will take longer because you are caravaning, we started out very early 5:00 - 5;300, on our last trip to Alb. NM, and didn't get their until after 6, just takes longer during stops for gas, restrooms etc. I will be leaving 2 days earlier because I am going to get some site seeing in since I have never driven that far West, I thought I would take advantage and Weck's is awesome New Mexico cuisine, yummy green chile sauce, but they also have plain ole oatmeal

I already told Diane I want to leave @ 4:00a in Sunday. Nothing like hitting the road early, and getting most of the driving out of the way, early on.

Ok with the above inputs. I have developed the following Wagon Train plan. Note - cowboy hats, chaps, boots & spurs, six-shooter, etc. are optional:
Head 'em up and move 'em out
* Sept. 4 4:00 am - approximately Leave DFW (maybe meet in Decatur around 5:00 - 5:30 depending on where you live in DFW)
* Sept. 4 6:00 pm Arrive Albuquerque, NM - Hilton Garden Inn Albuquerque Uptown (we are now booked there) or where ever you choose.
* Sept. 5 8:00 am breakfast at Weck's (note Hilton has a free breakfast option)
* Sept. 5 tbd tour J&R VINTAGE AUTOS
* Sept. 5 Arrive Little American mid to late afternoon.
Return
* Sept. 9 10:00 am Leave Flagstaff
* Sept. 9 overnight in Santa Rosa, NM hotel tbd (Hampton Inn - we have reservation here)
* Sept. 9 if time permits Route 66 Museum
* Sept. 10 8:00 am leave for DFW area

Bob, I was thinking we should get a head count for Breeakfast at Weck's.
