Grapeland's 60something Peanut Festival!

October 14 is the date for our yearly fall festival dubbed the "Peanut Festival." Many years ago peanuts were the cash crop here abouts. Now there are more watermelons grown, but the name remains! This is the second year for a car show to be included. All are welcomed. I am in charge so you won't find a registration fee. We gave away $300 in cash awards last year. There is a parade with pretty fair attendance starting at 10:00 - registration at 9:00am. At the parade's end will be a car/tractor/cycle show ending about 12:00. There are many arts and crafts booths at the city park only about 5 blocks away. There is live music and lots of good eating booths. A carnival for the kids (and just who are they?) is included.

Hey one of our Fanatics has a band over around FT. WORTH! Maybe they could come down and play for us!!!! A nice cruise can be arranged by me what ever length the group might want to make around 2:00 or 3:00 if any were interested. I can provide what other info you might want i.e. lodging, routing etc!

Grapeland is 20 miles south of Palestine on Highway 19/287. This is about 2 1/2 hours from the Dallas Metroplex or Houston for that matter! Zip here is 75844.

I'm up for that. I'll put the "Batmobile" in any parade. Sounds like it could be some fun!

I mapped the distance from Houston to Grapeland using Gingerbread Square in Grapeland as the reference point. Total miles 218.7, Travel time 3 hours 50".
If possible let's caravan there and back. It is probably closer than the distance shown.

I would probably go up Saturday but I would need to return on Sunday. Let's see how things progress here and also if anyone else is going.

Peanut Festival

If everything goes okay, we plan on arriving early Saturday morning for the festival. Finally got a room in Crockett at the Holiday Inn Express for Saturday night. We will leave then on Sunday. They have a few openings now.
Looking forward to the activities and visiting with you again.
