I heard Radiator Springs is roughly based on Seligman, Arizona...........northern route I-40. There is a run every year from Seligman to Kingman on old 66, a lot of the Arizona Fanatics go. Some open stretches of 66 from Needles to Victorville.

Timing would be an issue for me as well, later during summer would be easy, during school would take alot of shuffling that I am not sure I can do just yet
