Angry No Front License Plate

Over the weekend, I was stopped and cited for not having a front license plate. I tried to explain the overheating problem to the cop, but he wouldn't buy it. Does anyone have a contact in Dallas for a traffic lawyer that has been successful in winning these cases? Please PM me, if so. Thanks.

The BD Speedshop says that the plate kit is unavailable.

I checked with Mike Byers and he said they don't have any plate holders in stock and he doesn't remember ever selling one.

I checked with BD Speedshop and they will have their front license plate mounts available in a couple of weeks.

The JP court finally got my citation yesterday so they extended my appearance date to 6/5. I only have to pay $12 and bring front and back photos so the ticket will be dismissed.

Update: I got the front license plate holder from BD Speedshop this week and installed it yesterday, it doesn't block the airflow, and it looks good. It should protect my air dam, too. It's $79 plus shipping. The bar stabilizes the front facia so the fog lights don't vibrate.
They should be back in production now and Frank's contact number is (603) 889-3576.
The court case went smooth. All I had to do was present front and back pictures, my registration, and $12. The citataion was dismissed so I don't have to pay the $117 fine.

I installed the fan from Simple Engineering and it makes a difference in slow moving traffic. I have the old fan available if anyone needs it.

typically you just have to show the judge you have a plate in place (picture) and ticket will be dismissed.

You can get the removable one I have from BD speedshop...http://www.bdspeedshop.com/item.cgi?part_id=33

Cost of Attorney vs. cost of fine?

Fix-it ticket in Cali - just put on the removable one and go to the cop shop to have it inspected...go home, take it off.

Revenue enhancement

It seems that all governmental types have REVENUE on their minds. My daughter didn't put the sticker for the current year on her plate. Roseville, Ca cop stops her, cites her, the fine for not having the sticker on the car (fees were paid on time) $25.00

Nothing personal, Tailhook, but this sounds like another Po Me thread.

You have two choices, pull up your Big Boy Pants and pay the damn ticket or move to a state that doesn't require a front plate as I doubt seriously that lame excuse of overheating is going to get you anywhere.

In NY it is not a "fix-it" ticket but a "failure to comply".

Chevy SSR Trailblazer Front License Plate Bracket 04-07 | eBay

I am pretty sure someone on the site has one they would sell you for less than the one listed above.

Kinder, gentler Roseville PD is issuing fewer tickets

The Roseville Police Department has earned a reputation as being hyperaggressive in enforcing traffic laws.

But the department has quietly undergone a significant priority shift – and a dramatic reduction in the number of citations.

Police have issued about one-sixth the traffic citations during the past five months compared to the previous two years.

Better look that one up. I was stopped two years ago and got a fix-it ticket. Just a courtesy warning. I am not sure Texas has a law like that one.

Warning- cheap advice!

Not a good idea to go into the Judges courtroom and tie up his time with some lame excuse about mechanical problems, he's heard it all before, and you WILL NOT get outta there without leaving some money behind.
Out here on the left coast, we have something called trial by declaration, where you write the judge a nice letter, apologize profusely, offer to pay what ever he deems fair, along with a picture showing you fixed it.
Almost every time this has been done, the ticket gets dropped because "his honor" can deal with it from his office. Sometimes works on "performance awards" too!

At least you gave him something to talk about at the Donut Shop.

Seriously, I've been on the other end of things like this many times, as the one with the citation book.

From a X-cop:
Put the front plate on, take a couple good pictures, go to court, be honest, and apologetic. or just pay the fine.
It' can't be much and sure not worth a Lawyer.

If it's not a moving violation, it shouldn't put points on your driving record, so I suggest you just pay it. I got one two years ago. I went to court. Paid parking. Went to court. Sat for THREE hours. Finally got before the judge. He dismissed the ticket if I paid court costs. $150.00. I now have the license plate holder that doesn't connect to the fascia at all, it is connected to the bottom of the radiator and reinforces the bottom of the front fascia.

I got a speeding ticket in Dallas. I got 20-30 letters from lawyers offering to get me off for $45. When I got to court, EVERY person who had a lawyer (probably 40 out of the 50 in court) had their case dismissed no questions asked. So get the lawyer, it's cheap and effective.

Why did she not put the sticker on? I'd say $25.00 is a pretty cheap reminder...

I got pulled over in my home state of Texas with a warning... So i pitched it on my dash.... i passed the same DPS trooper a few weeks later and he didn't pull me over. My brother-in-law who is a city cop said that as long as its "displayed" you shouldn't have a problem. and so far i haven't.

DAng, that is nice. I wonder if somehow we could incorporate Mike's air dam with the plate molded in.

I think that would be too low and you could lose the plate and dam at the first parking curb or high bump...just my .02

I feel for you "TAILHOOK"

That front plate just dosen't cut it that's for sure I could care less what you tell ANY officer of the law.... In ANY state. If he pulled you over for that violation .... He is going to write it up This also goes for ANY Judge when a fix-it ticket is presented to them.... If revenue is owed.... They WILL collect it. Times have changed out there and this is just how it is.

I just wanted to let you know..... That the "E-Bay link" to the plate mount that say's it's for a SSR ? Is just a "Generic" one that is fairly flat and the holes are not even close. Here's a few pictures of a "REAL" SSR front plate mount kit from GM complete with instructions & foam backing.....

For your reference "TAILHOOK" ..... Just so you know what's up if you deside to go with the stock mounting method.

I just do not like the holes in my pristine Slingshot Yellow grill. It might be worth testing the law by driving without it. I will drill out the rivets and then fill them in and paint the R .

More Notes

I have a manual Show-n-Go but I am having trouble finding a place to mount it. I found a mount from the SSRSTORE.COM and have sent an email to them with no answer back yet. That looks like a good possibility. The one from BDSpeedshop is out of stock. I may build my own with notes from Big Blue Ox back in '06.

The owner of SSRSTORE said he is out of the SSR products business and that it was on an old web site.
