SSR vs TXU Power Pole...Pole wins

Last week I missed the cars stopped ahead of me, but managed to hit the power pole in the bar ditch. Totalled my 04 Slingshot. Hit the windshield but walked away with just a cut on the head and sinking feeling in my stomach. I don't know if wife will let me have anything besides a tank for my next ride.

It depends on who was at fault. Or just beg and cry. She will see it your way

Sorry toi hear about the crunch. Glad you were able to walk away, but make sure the doctor checks you over thoroughly. Maybe the insurance Co will trade you for this one.

Thank goodness you walked away. It says a lot about the strength of these trucks. It's truly a Blessed Day when you can walk away from any wreck. Glad to hear that you're OK. That's worth celebrating in itself. Sorry about the R.

- we're glad you are OK - but I know someone is tracking the VIN's of all the deceased SSR's - so you may want to put the VIN in here. Also, is there any idea as to the number of 'surviving' SSR's? Seems like with all these recent demises, that the remaining alive and well count is probably between 22,000 and 23,000

Very optimistic guess, NMR! My bet would be many many fewer remaining today.

by the way, the "Tracker of Deceased SSRs" is our Snowbound Buddy Cash.

Really Doop You think my guesstimate of remaining drivable R's is really HIGH Sorry I was having a senior moment - not knowing it was Cash that was keeping track of dead SSR's. Snowbound, eh? But they DO get a lot of that stuff way up there!

My guess is that AZ, NM & TX have had more snow than I have here. COLD as crap here though! Speaking of crap, Will Rogers once said "Never kick a cowpie on a hot day"! Probably a good idea just to avoid them altogether! I think it is warming up to -4 today!
I have J.R.'s Vin# and have entered it in the Deceased SSR Thread.
As far as total numbers, through a ton of ongoing research, I have only been able to account for 70 odd officially, but I know there are a whole pile more. It is very frustrating seeing old threads such as "Hey, check this wreck out on ebay" only to find that information from ebay is long gone. Until we learn to type #'s instead of copy and paste it will always be a struggle. Hell, I can't even get guys like this Jefferey guy that just wrecked his to submit his VIN! I'm not sure how many times or in how many ways you can ask without seeming ghoulish. How does one ask the poor lady that posted a while ago about her brother losing his life in the accident for the VIN? You can't, so until someone comes up with it in a wrecking yard it is just one of many that will remain unknown.

That cowpie advice is probably still good - similar to what you would get on your shoes were you to kick one of our fine Washington bureaucrats (or should that be bureaucraps?)

I didn't know how you could get any 'real' count on the dead SSR's, Cash - guess everyone just thought you had some magical powers??? Sort of like chasing smoke isn't it ? From the bright side, it was a whopping +14 here this morning - and now has climbed all the way up to 40 degrees! Almost topless weather

No basis for my guess, NMR . . . just a theory from reading so many posts over the years.

As for Cash being snowbound . . . keep it quiet as he has some wild idea he's living in a Tropical Paradise.

and, by the way, damn cold here today. Kinda cloudy (yes, we do have clouds every now and then) and only in the mid 50's so far.

I don't hit the beaches too often but it's almost that time of year. We have that gorgeous white sand too.
I hate those beaches where you can't find a place to park your ass without being subjected to wall to wall women with exposed boobies!

I met a guy in Memphis that worked at the Air Traffic Control Center who totaled his SSR....I asked him 3 times for the VIN, each time he would say "Oh, yea. I can get it for you", but I never got it from him. That was 2 years ago.

Smurf. Thanks very much

Just the other day I came across this old post from 2007. I wasn't expecting much for results but I was able to contact Smurf by email address. He got right back to me. He is in Asia and said he would try and get me information.
Mater is another that got back to me shortly and did get me the VIN a little later. Some guys care, and others could give a rats ass. Then again, I suppose it is easy to forget about it too.

Especially if it is two years ago and you have managed to put it out of your mind for sanity's sake. I wouldn't be too hard on him, but a montly reminder might be ok.

You missed me. Certainly not being hard on Smurf as I think it will be bonus if I hear back. I do get a bit choked at guys selling us parts that can't be bothered to post their VIN's though.

I already had JR's but he posted his right away also, in another thread.
